So I made the decision to join the Coast Guard. I haven't signed a contract yet, But I'm taking the ASVAB in two days then plan on signing on. I'm going to shoot for AST (Rescue Swimmer) but the Attrition rate is one of the highest for any military occupation, Second only too special ops such as Seals and Rangers. Ive started training the past couple days for A School. Boot Camp in itself shouldn't be the difficult part, Its when I go to A School that Ill struggle. You have to rank up first in order to even go to A School, Which trains you to become a Rescue Swimmer So it will probably be a Year or so after I ship out before I can attend A School.
Ive been doing alot of reading, and started training for it, Although I'm pretty sure no matter what I do I wont be ready, I don't think its possible to be self motivated enough to be completely prepared for something like that. I know I wont quit no matter what happens, They'll have to throw me out of A School if I don't make it as a Rescue Swimmer.
This is the biggest decision Ive ever had to make in my life. I'm sure its going to change me, Its definitley going to hurt, But in the end, I know its what I want. I wont lie to myself though, I'm extremely nervous about it all.. But determined none the less.
