How "Silly College" is Related to Real Life

Dec 15, 2007 08:32

Community college is not really related to real life except in two important aspects:
1.) Real life is all about jumping through hoops to get things done. So is college.
2.) The 11th hour is not a good time to suddenly find a strike of motivation. Despite the lie you tell yourself that pressure forces you to do your best, you will ultimately fail. College is the same way.
*The caveat with #2 is, in college there seems to be this "hand holding" policy where, if you've made even the smallest effort at the 11th hour despite the fact that you did absolutely nothing for 15.5 weeks, you will be rewarded with a minimal amount of points which may or may not matter. In the real world, there are no points. Success is determined by how much money is brought in and sometimes how much face is saved. There is no room for 11th hour cramming in the real world.

I believe that Draconian will be my new word for next year.
