Seriously, I don't like scary movies. I don't. I do not have the nerves for it. I freak myself out. But then I saw one amazing one...Let the right one in. Some people have compared this movie to Twilight because it also has vampires and its a love story. But that's where it ends. For me Twilight is a soap opera and with lines like "You're my life now.." which suppose to melt every woman's heart. But that movie is easily forgotten until next romantic comedy with some good looking hunk comes along.
Let the right one in is nothing like Twilight. It's serious and dark but also so moving. I had this feeling, I can't really explain it, a mix between fascination and fear.
Summary: A fragile, anxious boy, 12-year-old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. The lonely boy's wish for a friend seems to come true when he meets Eli, also 12, who moves in next door to him with her father. A pale, serious young girl, she only comes out at night and doesn't seem affected by the freezing temperatures. Coinciding with Eli's arrival is a series of inexplicable disappearances and murders. One man is found tied to a tree, another frozen in the lake, a woman bitten in the neck. Blood seems to be the common denominator and for an introverted boy like Oskar, who is fascinated by gruesome stories, it doesn't take long before he figures out that Eli is a vampire. But by now a subtle romance has blossomed between Oskar and Eli, and she gives him the strength to fight back against his aggressors. Oskar becomes increasingly aware of the tragic, inhuman dimension of Eli's plight, but cannot bring himself to forsake her. Frozen forever in a twelve-year-old's body, with all the burgeoning feelings and confused emotions of a young adolescent, Eli knows that she can only continue to live if she keeps on moving. But when Oskar faces his darkest hour, Eli returns to defend him the only way she can...
This story has so much more depth than Twilight. It deals with so much more emotions and in a real way. I remember thinking that when I saw Twilight that the girl that played Bella had to be one of the worst actresses I have ever seen. She was supposed to be in love with Edward but she didn't show it. Not once. Nothing in her face, eyes or body showed that she loved him. But in this movie, a twelve year old boy who has never acted before shows how it's done. Just in a couple of minutes you can see what he is feeling and relate.
The movie also dealt with bullying in a realistic way. It was dark and painful to watch. But so real.
The boy who played Oskar in this movie was simply wow..Every emotion he showed it. Everything...
Of couse, Hollywood is remaking this movie. I HATE THAT. Of course it will strip away all good parts. This movie dealt with bullying, first love and kids curiosity towards sex and their bodies.
There is this scene, beauitful shot, where Eli ( the vampire ) comes into Oskar's room. He is sleeping and she wakes him.
She tells him to turn around as she undresses and lay down beside him on the bed. It's a very beautiful scene where he asks her to go steady. She eventually says yes and then she runs her hand down his arm and there fingers intertwine. The scene doesn't go beyond that. But of course Hollywood with label it too sexual and not keep it.
Stupid Hollywood. Why can't they just leave it alone!?
Watch this movie..Awesome, awesome movie...
