An anime for me is more than just for fun... It’s more than just something to watch when you’re bored… Its more than just filling in those bored times in your life. Anime for me, just like most things I love watching, is something that I can relate to and understand. Its something I learn from and grow with. I am very selective about anime, usually I end up picking animes from the Shōjo or shoujo (少女) genre of anime…
Onegai Teacher…
Boys Be…
Love Hina…
And more recently, Tokimeki Memorial and Honey and Clover…
Speaking of Honey and Clover, I just finished the first season. Simply put, its about a young man, Yūta Takemoto, and his journey through college life and beyond. It follows through various obstacles and two main love triangles, and how Takemoto and his friends handle them.
My sister put it simplest: “It’s F.R.I.E.N.D.S., only anime.” Yes, it bears a resemblance to friends, but Hachimitsu to Kurōbā has a deeper view into relationships and life than F.R.I.E.N.D.S. It has a deeper view in love, and how hard it is to go through unrequited love. The happy ending in Hachimitsu to Kurōbā isn’t when the lead, Takemoto, gets to be with the love of his life, Hag
umi Hanamoto. It’s when he sees that what he has is more important than romantic love. It’s when he goes home everyday, to the warmth and comfort of his friends. It’s when he sees that what he’s going through isn’t something that should take over his life. It’s when he realizes that life isn’t about just the ups or the downs; it’s about both of them and how everyone has ups and downs in their life.
Hachimitsu to Kurōbā is a very very well made anime. It’s the fruit of probably years and years of labor, all of which were done not just because the pay was good, or because they had to finish, but because the people working on it, loved it. Its as good as most of the movies out today, both in story-telling and in how well they pick the songs to use at a specific time.
The background songs fit in perfectly with the scene, and the insert songs give emphasis to the moments that need it. At first, I was put off by how they drew the characters. The animation style was distinct; it was something I didn’t like at first. But once the first few minutes passed, I saw that it was more than just the animation, it was how the characters grew right there, before your eyes. It was how they make the characters grow without you noticing it…
I am seriously in love with this anime…
And if you haven’t watched it yet, you should…, if you’re a fan of reality-type animes, you will love this…
I sure did… ^___^
