Revolution, Beauty and the Beast

I've watched every episode of both shows so far and have some thoughts. Spoilers for first five episodes of Revolution/first two of Beauty and the Beast under the cut.

I'm really starting to like Revolution. It isn't that good, but it sure is entertaining. Every episode tosses in something I don't expect yet makes sense. I love the setting, the mystery, the story possibilities, just the sheer potential of this series.

If only they had hired a stronger actress to play Charlie... and Danny, for that matter. Danny is such an annoying character, I don't care if he gets rescued or escapes. At least Billy Burke tries to make Uncle Miles more than just the standard bad-ass, impossibly skilled fighter who can beat up dozens of opponents at once.

The backstory about Tom Neville makes him much more interesting. I want to see more backstory about everyone now! I didn't put together the pieces about Tom and "Nate," so that revelation came as a surprise. Actually, there have been several significant surprises in the episodes so far, which is a good sign. I don't like predictable shows.

Speaking of which: Beauty and the Beast. Unfortunately, the "damsel in distress" angle has already worn thin. I'm disappointed that this is the route the show is taking. In the pilot alone, the "beast" (Vincent) saves Cat's life THREE times. Yes, three times! The first incident occurs when some bad guys shoot Cat's mother and then go after Cat. In steps the beast to kill the villains. Nine years later, Cat is a police detective fighting some more bad guys when she ends up on the wrong end of a gun barrel. Vincent saves her again. Then Cat chases him along train tracks (brilliant move!), and Vincent has to save her for a third time when a train comes along! Are you kidding me?!? I can understand and forgive the first incident, but when you pile on two more in the same episode... no way.

Even worse, in episode #2, Cat again tangles with a bad guy who gets the upper hand and is on the verge of killing her. And of course, Vincent rescues her. So that means he's saved her life FOUR times in a mere two episodes. This has to be someone's idea of a bad joke. When it happens so often, it's not romantic or cute; it's insulting. I'm going to check out tonight's episode mainly to see if Vincent bails Cat out yet again.

I dislike this show for other reasons as well, but it's too depressing to list all of them.
