This is my last night in 109, and I am not taking it well.
I hate goodbyes, but I become especially attached to places. After you leave somewhere, you can see the people you left behind. But typically, once you turn in that key, you are forever banned from a place that just minutes ago was HOME. And that thought kills me every time.
I guess I am so attached to this room because it is the one stronghold of consistency in this crazy year I've had here. It feels like I've been at college forever, but I haven't. It really wasn't that long ago that all this stuff I'm packing up now was new and I was hauling it into this room. The loneliness is the same too. I got here early for Honors orientation, and no one else was here yet. No roommate, just me. Quiet night with moving boxes and the tv on for noise. Now everyone has gone home. Its scary how easy my home unassembles itself.
I am checking out at the last possible time allowed before I get fined by the university for staying too long.
Like I said, I don't do well with goodbyes.
So, for my last post written from this room, I just wanted to express my love to the 109. You were the perfect freshman year room. Close enough to everything, especially Starbucks. On the first floor so this fat kid didn't have to walk up the stairs all the time. RIght next to a beautiful tree that made me smile every morning. Huge window giving me so much lovely sunlight, I never had the lights on. Big closet that I could walk in and still fill to the brim. A nice deep desk for all my stuff. A mattress, that after a month of backpain, is now my favorite way to sleep.
Thanks for always being here for me, and being the one place where I could just relax and take a nap. I live on a crazy schedule, but it was so nice to know that at the end of the day, I had a home to come to. Thanks for the late nights, the early mornings, the dance parties, game nights, ab workouts, cereal, hot messes, and the laughter. It's been a fantastic year.
MWAH. I'll miss you!
Memorable moments of my room:
Court and I throwing a party one of the first weeks of school... and by party I mean Joe and Ian and some snacks from Meijer : )
The Homecoming reenactments, filmed right here.
Catchphrase tourneys with everyone I've ever met.
Passing out for naps like every day.
Discovering that I fall asleep fastest in this f-ed up position where I'm half on my side, half on my stomach.
The time I slept on an air mattress on top of my bed.
The time my floor was home to an extraordinarily tall Texan.
The entire football team coming in to say hi.
When we discovered Joe loves to sing and had singalong Moulin Rouge.
Me falling asleep with all the lights on and a movie playing and like ten guests over. multiple times.
We like to make noises when we're tired.
The era of the pink chair.
Regis and Kelly mornings.
Eating C Club and watching tv when we felt antisocial.
Visits from Joel.
When Amy lived here for a week and we were craaaaazy.
Facebooking like it was my job.
Me sleeping in my clothes just because I felt like it.
Making our beds at 11:30 pm every night.
And the best... conversations from my window.
freshman year,
college,
memories,
nostalgia
