Happy Thanksganukkah!

Or is it Thanksgivikkah? I've seen both of them.

Hanukkah showing up this early is a bit weird for me, as I tend to think of Hanukkah as my culture's way of observing the kindling of light at the darkest time of the year - but while it may not be the actual midwinter point, it certainly is dark and it certainly is cold! (The wooly bears lied to me! Except for that one that was entirely black.)

I had two separate Thanksgivings this year. darthsatyr had to work a double on Thanksgiving itself, so we had our personal feast on Wednesday. Darthsatyr can't eat poultry, so we went traditional and had lobster, supplementing it with sweet potatoes, baked brie, cheese dip served in a pumpkin, and stuffing. (Amy was there, so said stuffing was gluten-free.) And, of course, pumpkin pie with handmade whipped cream. We ate, and watched the movie Hitchcock on disc, which was a lot of fun. Anthony Hopkins really nailed the voice and mannerisms.

On the actual day of Thanksgiving, I had dinner with my mom, which meant I did still get turkey. Then I came home and lit the menorah, because while it may not be the actual midpoint of the winter, there's something to be said for kindling fire against the darkness after two days of feasting and giving thanks.

Wishing everyone much feasting and light, and the company of those you most desire!
