Notes from the Manga World

Remember that sooper sekrit manga rewriting project? The unexpectedly porny one? Well, I can finally talk about it, because the first volume is out - and apparently on its release week it was #1 on the New York Times Manga Bestseller List!

It's Monster Musume. Porny harem manga about an ordinary guy who finds himself playing host to an increasing number of half-human cultural exchange students. As of volume 2, which is the last one I adapted, Our Everyman Hero is living with a lamia, a harpy, a centaur, a slime-girl, aaand a mermaid. Volume 3 just arrived, and without having read the script yet I'm seeing a spider-chick, a cyclops (Leela?), possibly a unicorn-chick, and...something else I can't quite figure out. Also, pig-men. It's definitely not high literature, but it's a lot of fun - and now I can say I've worked on a #1 New York Times best-seller!

And in the "small world" category, it turns out two of the other rewriters for Seven Seas actually live in West Hartford, just across the town line from me! I met with them earlier in the week for ice cream at A.C. Peterson's, and we had a great time yammering about working in the manga field. They've got their own publishing company, Chromatic Press, so I'm taking on some of their rewriting work for Seven Seas. Hopefully I'll be able to do some work directly for Chromatic as well.

Oh, and completely unrelated, but if you like Doctor Who at all - go to Google immediately!

manga, work stuff
