Yesterday I met with a recruitment company. They're also a temp agency, but they do a lot of temp-to-perm and recruitment for permanent positions as well. I think I impressed them - apparently my scores on the Word, Excel, and alphanumeric data entry were all well above their average. 10-key data entry not so much...numbers slow me down. Still, overall pretty decent. I'd originally met with the Office department (administrative and clerical jobs), but after talking with my rep for a while and going over my resume, he had me speak to a rep from the Creative department as well (marketing, design, possibly one-shot proofreading/copy editing gigs).
This one may actually pay off. They seemed to feel that I was very marketable, and that my salary requirements were well in line with what they could get me. And even if it doesn't, I've got an appointment with another temp agency on Monday. This is the one I used to work for way back in the dawn of time, 15 years ago when I was job-hunting in Hartford just after graduating college. I'd gotten work fairly steadily from them before and I'm hopeful I will again. This was the place where I got such odd jobs as assisting a puzzle-company to find props for their photo shoots. (That was the year everybody on my holiday list got puzzles as presents!)
We'd planned on doing nothing for the holidays, but H. is coming back from Texas to throw her annual Boxing Day party, so we're going to Brooklyn for that. And since we're in NY anyway, we'll pay mother-in-law a visit. She wants to see my earrings and possibly buy some for gifts (yeah, I know...buying gifts after Christmas is a bit weird, but I'm not going to question a sale), so I'll be picking up my jewelry stock from my mom today. Despite the fact that it's really nasty out and I don't want to leave the house at all. Bleh.
Finally, we have a turkey brining. I don't know when exactly we'll be cooking it, as it's still partly frozen even after a week in the fridge (our refrigerator tends to freeze things - I found the bowl of kidney beans I'd put in there to soak, a solid block of ice). Might not be until after our holiday trip. But once it's cooked it'll be food for about a week. Hooray for holiday sales!
