... conversation had while discussing dinner

My love: What kind of food do you like?

My sister: American and Italian. I mean, we make spaghetti, it's not like we're going out to Italian restaurants or nothing.

My love: What DO you eat at home?

My sister's husband: I cook all sorts of things at home. I make hamburgers, tacos, hamburger helper AND chicken helper.

AND chicken helper folks. Wide range of options there.

The kids didn't like the eggs because there was salt/pepper in them, the lasagna that was jar sauce, cheddar cheese, and noodles because it tasted funny, the birthday cake because the icing had lemon zest in it, the sweet Italian sausage because it was too spicy, the maple syrup because it didn't taste like the syrup at home, or the rice dream that we bought specifically for the child whose stomach gets upset when they eat ice cream.

It was all about labeling. If we had served it out of a ben and jerry's tub they would have lapped it up. How do I know this? We served textured vegetable protein instead of breakfast sausage by preparing it before they woke up and they LOVED it. We might not ever tell them that they ate "fake meat"
