Mindless Self Indulgence @ Starland Ballroom
Kenny Muhammad, the human orchestra, was awesome. His beatboxing was insane. His techno beats were the craziest.
The A.K.A.'s were alright. They come out with masks of the faces of presidents. They got the crowd moving a bit.
Suicide City was karazzee. They had so much energy. The guitarist crowd surfed twice and the first time he continued playing as he surfed. The lead singer kept running around and jumping to meet the crowd right on the other side of the barrier. I did an teeny bit [maybe seconds worth] of pitting. I went surfing and then grabbed his hand for that grab-hand type of high five. For one song he grabbed a guy of the crowd and "roughly" waltzed with him. For the same song he picked up a girl knight-in-shining-armor style and just swung her around. They opened up with Diluted and played Undone.
Mindless Self Indulgence was the scheisse! Jimmy was just so effin' funny/weird. Early in the show he extend his mic. arm out and then drove the mic. in to his chest and acted as if he had just been hit with an arrow/bullet. He said that probably half of us could get him discounts at Hot Topic =). He was walking from one side of the stage pointing at people saying "Too fat, too skinny, not enough hair, too much hair..." etc. He asked us if we ever heard of "Bring the Pain" and then after the other band members leave the stage you hear the vocals to Bring the Pain. You could see he wasn't saying a weird, but you heard the vocals. He made it seem like he was oblivious to the music. he just stood there and did simple things like check his nails. Towards the end of the song he pointed at the crowd for certain parts to have us yell back the words. When the vocals of the song ended he said "You love my iPod." Later on in the show he was like "Thank god you guys aren't real vampies. I'd feel like the lamest guy in the room." They opened up with Faggot. Clarissa, Shut Me Up, Planet Of the Apes, 1989, Backmask, Bitches, Bring the Pain [vocal], Bullshit, Dick face, Golden I, Holy Shit, I Hate Jimmy Page, Kick the Bucket, Kill the Rock, Last Time I Tried To Rock Your World, London Bridges, Prom, Straight to Video, Stupid MF, Tom Sawyer, Tornado... and more to come? They played a couple I didn't recognize [which was quite a surprise for me]. I did another teeny bit of pitting. I surfed for Shut Me Up.
I'm really glad Arielle was there. She made half the show for me. It was so nice not to be alone and even better than I was not-alone with her. I did the boyfriend thing where I put my arms around her and tried my best to make sure people didn't shove into her, etc. =P After I went surfing for MSI I couldn't find her and at first I figured it was find and that I'd find her eventually, but then I began to think about it more... which lead to a bit of worrying. But it was fine. I found her. She said she tried surfing =). But they dropped her =(. Oh wizzle. She'll get up there again.
