1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
I started a year doing national service through AmeriCorps. I think I might put in a second one...
(Real Job is called Real Job because if I put the actual name, my superiors get a notification that I was a-bloggin' about them and there's some NSFW content up in hurr. If they were to stumble upon it by themselves, whatev. I just don't necessarily want my bitch-posts and meme spam to be associated with Real Job.)
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Looking back on mah Leej from last year, yes. My job sort of consists of service-oriented work, I'm more crafty (I knitted two scarves and a hat as Crimmis presents and one more has been requested of me). I think I know what I want to do for the next year, but it kind of gets hazy after that...
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nada.
5. What countries did you visit?
Does Canada count? Wait, was that even this year?
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A cat that doesn't nom me, and (oh dear this sounds desperate) a boy-who-is-more-than-friend.
7. What date(s) from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 2-- I gradjimated college, bitches! 2008 was stressful, but not entirely memorable-forever.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Graduating college and going on to a psuedo-Real Job.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Fail-thesis.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I (kind of?) recovered from knee surgery in the beginning of the year, and I had a cough that lasted about two and a half months from the end of August until almost November.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new lappy! Well, technically The Rev bought it, but I will pay him back eventually.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I'm pretty sure most everyone I know had their upstanding days.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Mudslinging, catty politicians and their cronies.
CEOs and people out to make a buck while everything collapses around them.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Bills (phone, rent, electric, etc.) and groceries. Ah, apartment living!

Finishing college and starting Real Job.

Honestly, I kind of hate "OMG POST LYRICS THAT REMIND YOU OF THIS YEAR/YOUR TRUE LOVE/THE WORST TIME OF YOUR LIFE/YOUR MOTHER'S CAT'S UNCLE'S BIRTHDAY" because they're annoying and I can never come up with anything that actually fits.

Worked on my thesis.

Christmas Eve midnight service at home-home, morning presents and breakfast with the immediate family, lunch and mom's-side-family presents, vegging out.

No, but I did come out with some bad date/poor decision making stories.

Hahaha.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
I can't pick. I picked up probably five or so shows that I'd never seen before, and none of them really disappointed. However, some of the old ones did (I'M LOOKING AT YOU HEROES) while some got better (AND THEN KILLED ME DED, TORCHWOOD. D-E-D DED).
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is such a strong word. There are people that I've known that I'm just...moved on from. Hate takes a lot of energy, and I am lazy.
26. What was the best book you read?
Breaking Dawn, OMG! American Gods was really good. The Secret History of the American Empire was really-eye opening.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Um. Uh. Girl Talk? Jenny Lewis? Okkervil River?
28. What did you want and get?
Teflon pots!

There will be MILKSHAKES! The Dark Knight, obvs.

On my 22nd birthday itself, sat on my ass with kitteh because Wesley kids were on retreat and everyone else seemed to be busy/not around.
Before & after my birthday, I went: wine tasting with the fam, got taken out to Claddaugh's (this Michigan cracker just keeps getting blacker, guys!), and went to a Red Wings (preseason) game.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Your mother Completing a better thesis, and having a better and more complete Legacy Binder left for me.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Half poor-college-kid office clothes, half t-shirts and jeans.
34. What kept you sane?
I like that you assume that I am sane to begin with. You have to be at least slightly crazy to work for AmeriCorps/a non-profit. (Amirite guys?)

I'd bang Alan Tudyk any day. Or Nathan Fillion. RDJ. (lol Seth Rogen)
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I'm pretty sure the election stirred everyone.
37. Who did you miss?
Everyone. All the kids who went off and graduated and got Real Jobs, the few people from high school I try to maintain contact with, the kids in Lansing I see every few weeks. Everyone.

My fellow VISTAs and some of the people I've been working with at Olivet.

1. My family, for as long as I can remember, has had a cat.
2. I've had to get over my aversion to calling people in order to do Real Job and live in an apartment.
3. I've never had a romantic relationship last longer than 3 months.
4. People calling other people "beautiful", "cutie", "babe", etc. makes me uncomfortable. Cutesy or obviously stupid pet names (schnookums, pookie, sugar tits) do not. Nor do old men referring to younger woman as "darlin'", unless it's purely patronizing.
5. I don't talk to my parents about religion or politics. This must be the reason I've only recently realized that my father is a closet Republican.
6. My high school nickname of "Ghetto" faded away during college because I pretty much left North Branch behind.
7. Secretly, I'm scared to move out of Michigan and away from my family and friends.
8. I refuse to smoke anything because I don't want to end up like my sister.
9. I occasionally wonder if I should have children because I'm afraid of passing along all the medical bullshit that runs in both sides of my family (kidney disease, arthritis, crap knees, bad eyesight, thyroid issues, high blood pressure, cancer, possible mental disease and alcoholism, among others).
10. I really enjoy roadtrips, but not the lame kind where everyone else falls asleep in the first ten minutes.
11. I donated to Michigan Radio this year, thus solidifying the fact that I am a pretentious NPR nerd.
12. I judge my brother harshly because I feel like he should be further along in his life by now (he's 30), or at least out of the house.
13. I refuse to work in fast food unless that is the only possible job that I could be hired for. Even then, I'd consider moving.
14. When I was in kindergarten, I wanted to be a bus driver until the sub driver forgot to let my friend and I off at the last stop and started going back to the school.
15. I really dislike people who proselytize about their religious beliefs, or assume that I share them because I occasionally go to church.
16. I'd rather get pierced than tattooed. Bad_tattoos and shitty_mods have scared me off. I'm currently considering getting a tragus piercing or slightly stretching my lobes.

I (kind of?) recovered from knee surgery in the beginning of the year, and I had a cough that lasted about two and a half months from the end of August until almost November.

My new lappy! Well, technically The Rev bought it, but I will pay him back eventually.

I'm pretty sure most everyone I know had their upstanding days.

Mudslinging, catty politicians and their cronies.
CEOs and people out to make a buck while everything collapses around them.

Bills (phone, rent, electric, etc.) and groceries. Ah, apartment living!

Finishing college and starting Real Job.

I can't pick. I picked up probably five or so shows that I'd never seen before, and none of them really disappointed. However, some of the old ones did (I'M LOOKING AT YOU HEROES) while some got better (AND THEN KILLED ME DED, TORCHWOOD. D-E-D DED).
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is such a strong word. There are people that I've known that I'm just...moved on from. Hate takes a lot of energy, and I am lazy.

Breaking Dawn, OMG! American Gods was really good. The Secret History of the American Empire was really-eye opening.

On my 22nd birthday itself, sat on my ass with kitteh because Wesley kids were on retreat and everyone else seemed to be busy/not around.
Before & after my birthday, I went: wine tasting with the fam, got taken out to Claddaugh's (this Michigan cracker just keeps getting blacker, guys!), and went to a Red Wings (preseason) game.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Your mother Completing a better thesis, and having a better and more complete Legacy Binder left for me.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Half poor-college-kid office clothes, half t-shirts and jeans.

I like that you assume that I am sane to begin with. You have to be at least slightly crazy to work for AmeriCorps/a non-profit. (Amirite guys?)

I'd bang Alan Tudyk any day. Or Nathan Fillion. RDJ. (lol Seth Rogen)

I'm pretty sure the election stirred everyone.

Everyone. All the kids who went off and graduated and got Real Jobs, the few people from high school I try to maintain contact with, the kids in Lansing I see every few weeks. Everyone.

1. My family, for as long as I can remember, has had a cat.
2. I've had to get over my aversion to calling people in order to do Real Job and live in an apartment.
3. I've never had a romantic relationship last longer than 3 months.
4. People calling other people "beautiful", "cutie", "babe", etc. makes me uncomfortable. Cutesy or obviously stupid pet names (schnookums, pookie, sugar tits) do not. Nor do old men referring to younger woman as "darlin'", unless it's purely patronizing.
5. I don't talk to my parents about religion or politics. This must be the reason I've only recently realized that my father is a closet Republican.
6. My high school nickname of "Ghetto" faded away during college because I pretty much left North Branch behind.
7. Secretly, I'm scared to move out of Michigan and away from my family and friends.
8. I refuse to smoke anything because I don't want to end up like my sister.

I occasionally wonder if I should have children because I'm afraid of passing along all the medical bullshit that runs in both sides of my family (kidney disease, arthritis, crap knees, bad eyesight, thyroid issues, high blood pressure, cancer, possible mental disease and alcoholism, among others).

13. I refuse to work in fast food unless that is the only possible job that I could be hired for. Even then, I'd consider moving.
14. When I was in kindergarten, I wanted to be a bus driver until the sub driver forgot to let my friend and I off at the last stop and started going back to the school.
15. I really dislike people who proselytize about their religious beliefs, or assume that I share them because I occasionally go to church.
16. I'd rather get pierced than tattooed. Bad_tattoos and shitty_mods have scared me off. I'm currently considering getting a tragus piercing or slightly stretching my lobes.
