Wow! Sounds like you've been busy! What are you studying there? What is new Zealand like? Sorry for all the questions...every now and then I get the itch to travel somewhere far away where I've never been...it usually doesn't happen but I like to investigate just in case.
I have been listening to a lot of new stuff lately. My ears are drowning. The most recent discovery is Soulwax Nite Versions. I don't know if you've already heard of them, but I saw them 2 nights in a row here b/c they were so good. They're on this label, Modular Records which is based out of Australia, so it's kinda near you. There's some other good peeps on there too. What have you been listening to lately?
at the moment i'm studying psych, film, english, and stats. (i'm majoring in psych). but yeah. new zealand is neat. i haven't really been here in ages.. but um. it's really nature-y. and everyone loves having a good time. there's a 'kiwi' attitude, very down to earth. it's sort of hard for me to describe it because i've lived in texas for the past 7 or so years, so i get muddled up between cultures.
does soulwax nite versions have anything to do with radio soulwax? cuz if so, i've got a couple of their sets on my ipod. haven't heard of modular records... umm recently i've been getting into border community, esp. james holden and nathan fake. and tons of other people. mainly european stuff. modeselektor, apparat, all those berlin people. oh and animal collective. heheee.
That's an interesting combo of studies...I studied sociology, urban studies, spanish and environmental science, so there you go. Lol.
It sounds like you've lived in New Zealand before, is that where your family is from? It sounds like a neat place.
Soulwax Nite Versions are the same people as Radio Soulwax...Radio Soulwax is a bunch of comps they did under the name 2 Many DJ's. Soulwax Nite Versions is an album they did, that they perform live. The album is quite good, and seeing them perform it live was amazing.
Hmmm...I have heard of Apparat, but not sure what he/they sound like. I saw this guy Oskar Melzer dj last week and he was from Berlin.
