wednesday was also the branch's one-year reopening anniversary. weird thing to celebrate, but these people will observe anything and everything if it means busting out the sweet baked goods. we had a magic show (i'll get the guy's name later, he was pretty funny). i've been meaning to comment on the little kids we have visit on a regular basis, but plenty of them were there for the show. we have some of the most adorable little asian toddlers running around.
tuesday, there was one clopping around the entrance with his mom while i was fence-sitting on my break. he'd drag her left and right as he examined every little thing that was (or he thought was) on the ground. cute as hell. his quest for a cigarette butt was the best, since mom kept kicking it away and stepping in front of it to fend off his attempts to bring it in for a taste-test, but he finally managed to snag and promptly drop it.
last saturday, there was another one who was desperate to get close to me as i went to the bigger kids' section to shelve. a few little steps in my direction were all he got, as mom picked him/her up. he stared at me as i walked past, mom whispering "say bye-bye." i got a pudgy hand waving back and a half-toothy smile. plopped back down on the ground, there was panicked rush to get to me now that i was into shelving (must've been awesome), but the desperate stumbles predictably melted into a full-fledged trip and fall. i made sympathetic faces while there was a brief bout of crying, but mom made it all better. kids rule.
as of wednesday evening, i had only one case of biographies to do in the 900s, working my way backwards through the adult section.
earlier in the day, katy c. asked me to help a bleach-blond caucasian woman at the 15-minute-use terminal. they had managed to shut the thing off and katy was asking me why the keyboard lights weren't on. right. i check keyboard's cable, turn the thing back on and ask her what else. the thing was blinking, but now there was nothing on the screen. they'd unplugged it. geez.
a mother-daughter couple i've seen a few times before asked for printing assistance, and i finally got confirmation they are indeed euros. i didn't bother them with questions, just helped them with the job. they both wore "southpole" sweatshirts and had interesting accents. both are hot, but the daughter's almost definitely a minor. blast you sometimes, god. stop making readers think "pedophile." that mom though, mucho hotness. daughter's printing password was "sindy." time to check babynamer to see what country uses that variation.
tuesday, there was a college-aged young woman wandering about, but her interests were hard to gauge. second time she's visited during my shifts though. i need to start exiting through the main doors after work instead of slinking out the back.
oh, wednesday, i heard about my first stalker. some lad about my age asked for "that guy who works at csun" to help him with the computer, but i wasn't around. whew. yeah, one return visit is hardly stalking, but considering some of the weirdo regulars we have, i think this qualifies as noteworthy. at least it wasn't massive black porno guy or middle-aged balding white porno guy.
