Spore

I really enjoy playing Spore.  My laptop is not so keen, especially after I installed Galactic Adventures. Had to give up playing because of crashes. Then, a couple of months ago, I accidentally hit the original Spore icon on my Quick Launch bar (yep, not so good on the housekeeping on the laptop, lol) and the game loaded and played without crashes. No Galactic Adventures, just the original game. No worries about that though, I like the original game, especially the Creature stage and the Creature Creator, it's a great stress reliever.

Just recently pixelcurious expressed her interest in the game and shared some of the creatures that she'd created using the Creature Creator Trial. Well, it's a case of 'monkey see, monkey do', so want to see some of mine? There's only six compilation pictures behind the cut and, hopefully, the minimum of blabbering.

These creatures may have been created using parts from the Creepy and Cute expansion pack and the ectoskeletan limbs that were free in one of the patches.  (I understand that the latest patch also provides more free features, however I haven't downloaded it because I have Galactic Adventures installed - which I can't play - and I'm not sure what will happen to my original Spore game if I do. I'm only amazed that it actually works.  (Oops said I wouldn't blabber and then what have I done?)

I kind of fail at creating the creepy. These were an attempt. A fail. Ugly yes, but creepy, no not really.

Creatures do not, necessarily, need limbs to be playable in game. These Fairy Flies float and glide.

There are several ways to add other people's creations to your game. You either add them as a buddy, download directly from the Spore website or you add a Sporecast.  These guys are all in the Petting Zoo sporecast, along with cute creations from other people.

I went through a stage when I decided that eyes made excellent nostrils.  And yep, the front legs are wider. I decided that thick front legs were cute and tended to add them to all my earth animal based creations.

I did make odder creations as well but I'm not too sure at how good I am at that. I like making them though, even if they are rubbish, I enjoy them.  By the way, the turquoisey creature is a 'dragon' that I was evolving through the Creature game, as is the upright figure, I quite like extra heads on creatures.  The pink elephant flies, his ears are wings.  I have a grey version too with a feather - Dumbo would be so proud.

When you start the Creature game, the number of parts for these early creatures is small.  The pink three-eyed and the green creature with the little one on its back are examples of early creatures, just out of the Cell stage.

As the Creature stage progresses, you obtain more parts and evolve your creature.  Different parts have different values that help your creature survive on the planet.  You decide whether to befriend or attack other species and add parts to your evolving creature accordingly.  The Creatures react as you add or remove parts, I find sometimes I build the creature according to their wishes and end up with something I'd never have imagined.

If you use the Creature Creator, then the only constraints is the level of complexity, all parts are available so you have free rein to let your imagination run wild.

Each stage of the game can be played separately but starting from the beginning, you play through the Cell stage, the Creature stage, the Tribal stage, the City/Civilisation stage and finally get to the Space stage.

Apart from creating creatures, you also create buildings, vehicles and, of course, your space ship.  I haven't included any examples here because they looks so appalling in my game with my low graphics.  There are some amazing creations out there. Some day I hope to play this on a computer with a decent graphics card and see the true beauty of the game.  I get very disapointed when I paint my vehicles or spaceship and it is just not shiny, instead is dull and smudged. But, shouldn't really complain as I can play and the creatures don't look too bad (though colours can behave oddly.)

There can be a few 'questionable' creations out there but, should they download into your game, then it is easy to delete them.  So,  if you didn't want a bare bottomed, slightly risque character like the junk with the trunk here, then you can remove it.

As I said, I quite like creatures that seem to have more than one head but then I am a bit odd.

Finally, the Creature Creator is fabulous.  I'd quite like to see something along those lines in TS4, then we'd be able to adjust height and body size to our heart's content.  If you do play, enjoy and if you want to add me as a buddy then I'm Spooradit.  :)

Oops, think I said that there wouldn't be much babbling, actually that's not strictly true, there is.
