Well the wishes unlock when you switch houses and over time they replace with others as they decay. There's progression mods like Story Progression and Awesomemod that will keep them locked, though.
The sims will do a lot of random stuff when you switch out. My Iteration of Strangetown, Nervous Subject's been hitting on Circe a bit! :D
So the random factor can be pretty fun. The only thing I don't like is when favorite Sims die while I'm not running them. For this, I actually turn aging off and just manually age them up.

I hadn't thought of that aspect of them aging up. Oh dear, I might find that upsetting. Guess, I should enable the TS2 aging bit in the Story Progression mod.
Yeah, that's happened to me a few times over the years and it makes me sad. :( So that's why I was relentless to run Story Prog with TS2 aging for a while and then I just gave up and went to turning it off. I have too many Sims I get attached to!
