Pretty Little Liars. Yes, I love this show. And yes it's has a lot of shitty stuff in it. Alas, I have written a bunch about the season 5 premiere. So, spoilers.
It feels nice to have the show back. It doesn't always make me happy but I had forgotten in its absence how much I love the characters and (most of) the relationships and the fun of the show. And now that TWOP is gone (never posted there, but it was one of the few places I could read discussion about the show) I am pretty unspoiled for what's going to happen on this show, which I quite like. For some reason they seem to love to leak spoilers, spoiler photos, just everything, so I always had an idea of what was going to happen to some extent even without ever looking for spoilers. They just permeated all the PLL stuff I was looking at. Gonna try to stay away from them more this season because I much prefer it!
Anyway. I did know that Ezra wasn't going to die. SADLY. Him dying would improve this show 200% (is that an exaggeration? a little. maybe.) Well or them making him legit evil. What I think they were trying to do was make him seem more suspicious and interesting and make the audience think he was bad then go ha! He's not really all that bad, He loves Aria, protecting the girls! BUT what they really did was show new and creepier sides to him, without acknowledging that any of it is actually super disturbing and just letting the character be a full on predator like he actually is.
I really hope they introduce another black or other poc character this season. I know Shana wasn't popular and that's fine, the actress was sort of dull. But seriously the only other black characters I can think of are also dead (one evil, one a lesbian), so that's not looking too great on you show. Shana had the pleasure of being black, evil and a lesbian (or bi?). Though I her evilness is sort of relative because she just seemed to hate Alison, which is a pretty relatable position.
I enjoyed the random NYC children's park A-mob scene for its surrealness and ridiculousness. As bad as this show can be sometimes it definitely feels like it's enjoying it and reveling in it and not pretending to be something it's not (at least sometimes). So I guess Shana put an ad online asking for people to wear black hoodies and gloves and various masks and dance around and harass some teenage girls in a park in NYC. Makes sense more than a lot of other things in this show.
Also, the girls continue to be idiots in selective circumstances, which is no surprise. A has been and currently is multiple people. It is basically impossible for Shana to be any sort of A+. She's just the one that was currently messing with them in NYC. So basically if you are an asshole/crazy person in that town or surroundings areas and you want to fuck with some teens just get black pants, hoodie and gloves and go to Rosewood and do whatever the fuck you want and it will get blamed on some abstract A person. Of all the people who the audience has seen wearing the hoodie and believed to be an A of some sort, a lot of them are ones who have also been afraid of A .... Mona, Toby, Spencer, Alison, Lucas, Ezra, Cece, Shana. So basically everyone is and or could be A at all times!!
Loved Mona's army, just because Mona is so fun to watch. Looking forward to Paige getting some interesting stuff to do. And I was surprised that it made it seem like Melissa is going to be involved more this season, though it makes sense. She clearly knows/thinks she knows a lot of stuff. She probably blames Ians death on Alison (which is totally accurate as Alison killed him, which I totally forgot about until now!)
Anyway so the shows been renewed already for 2 more seasons AFTER this season. That is ridiculous. They need to change some shit and answer stuff and progress the story. Good series work because they aren't afraid of change and development. Too much stagnation and nobody cares anymore.
