I have half-ring on 30-06 from Remington - "light-weight"(from lead/zink-alloyed steel, actually 150% heavy than stell !!). and 30mm tubed mil-spec scope is on it's place like a baby :) total weight of rem 700 is around 6 lb.
but with 50 year old tikkka M65 it's impossible and it wasn't supposed to be. another attachement system. and in additional - length of 300 winmag. C.O.L- 3.5 inch :) and action is HUGE. to adapt scope I don't have choice to put a solid rail.

I see. To be honest I prefer short action cartridges ;)

for practic - mee too :)
even 30-06 is heavy - 100 rounds in 2 lightweight boxes are around 3-3.5 kg (~7lb) and barrel heats up like a hell.
but for long range slow meditative shooting long or magnum cartridges rocks :)
