Off the RP record: an IC rant about the DH movie

Nov 19, 2010 16:55

ooc: Went to the Deathly Hallows movie today and having Gellert in my head, this is what happened: He went from amused to incredulous to miffed to angry to pouting and ended up just fuming so he had to rant...

Spoilers may be below. It's off the official RP record but feel free to poke him or calm him down or something.

You are not alone... I've seen the animated series that's been based on *ahem* certain episodes in my life, and while I'm generally pleased with it, I do have some bones to pick about it ( ... )

I have no issues with the actor/s that portray me but the scriptwriter needs some talking to - or more. They completely twisted the one line I have in the film to be the opposite of what really happened. Any hint at redemption? Instantly blasted away.

IN TRUTH I DO NOT ASSIST VOLDEMORT, I TAUNT HIM.

Do not even get me started on the people who think I had anything to do with the so-named World War II. I didn't. I had my hands full dealing with the wizards in my own world at that time and did not cause or assist anyone in that Muggle conflict. Thankfully, this was not brought up in the film at all.

It seems that we both have much to rant about, Herr Doctor.

Hrrrm, do not get me started on the "fans" who completely miss the point in my own history. I've been falsely accused of forcing myself on my fiancee, the one person in the world whom I would *NEVER* harm if I can help it. If anything, she is the reason I chose to descend into the darkness within me, just so that I could look on her face again, just so that I could live to care for her. Yes, she was assaulted, but that was the work of my dearly beloved brother Saki. So it seems both of us have had problems with people destroying our chances for redemption....

They do like to assume much, don't they? My typist has long wanted to write an essay based solely on canon facts that dispproves all their most negative untruths about me. I am not that black and white and I am not like Voldemort.

I'm no fan of black and white morality, either, it's one reason why I never made my formal profession of faith in the Catholic Church: there are far to many people in it who think that way. And nothing disgusts me more than the righteous who foist such beliefs on others. If a person wishes to live with a strict personal moral code, that is their choice for their life and they need to realize that not everyone has the stamina or the interest to follow something so exacting.

I'd be interested in seeing this essay, but all things in their time. I've made similar arguments about my own ethics, though I regret that my canon is rather spotty in offering the means to back them up. :: Glares in the general direction of Matsushita-sensei::

There isn't a great deal written officially about myself either, which in a way is a blessing. One point that would have been made is that even with the Elder wand's reputation as something people have to murder to get, what did I do? Merely stunned Gregorovitch for it. A stunning spell, not a killing or even a torturing spell.

Oh, yes, I am so very, very evil...

Hm... Yes, you don't strike me as the type to resort to something that drastic. I won't go into detail, but I'll admit to being the sort who would go to extreme lengths, merely because I have an all or nothing way of thinking and acting. I take full ownership of that, and as a firm believer in free will and personal responsibility, I would call it my informed choice, not the effect of some curse.

Oh, I would go to extreme lengths - but only when it is necessary. I believe that is what gets me into trouble in my future... My willingness to do what has to be done.

I also accept the punishments dealt for what I have done. I simply do not like being condemned for things that I have not done at all and that are only assumptions in people's minds - or changes by some writer for a moving picture, in this particular case.

Mmm, one of the bones I have to pick with the animated series: they toned down my energy vampirism considerably. I realize things had to be cut in order to conserve time and their budget, but that is a rather important facet of my personality. Granted, there are some visual cues that hint at this, but for some people with less subtle minds, it isn't quite enough to clue them in.

Also, there are those who seem to think that because I am fond of younger men, this makes me a pedophile. I may prefer the beauty of the young, and I may be a monster, but I am not that brand of monster. I like those who are young enough enough to still have some of their innocence, but who are old enough to know what certain aspects of human behavior entail.

The word 'evil' is thrown around quite a lot in regards to me. I don't think it is correct and I strongly object to it being used.

Monster. Evil. These words seem to be so easy for people to label with without understanding all the facts.

:: Smirks:: I know what I am, and that creature is either a gloriously beautiful entity or a human's worst nightmare, or some combination of the two. I accept and embrace that. I know that at times when I take what I need, it causes pain and fear and even the death of my victim. And yet... and yet aren't these things that every human must experience? If I were to satisfy the moralizers and only take what I need from the wicked, from the criminal, it would only change what I feed from, not what I need to to do in order to live.

You sound like a predator. Like a panther or something similar.

:: Chuckles:: You flatter me... No, you're quite close to what I am and how I function. I might take a certain delight in the pursuit and the kill which some find jarring, but doesn't anyone enjoy a good meal?

People seem to moralize even when it comes to predatory beasts. Think of how often wolves and bears are demonized...

*shrugs* I eat to stay alive. I do enjoy a good roast meal but I have better things to do than eat.

As long as you're not enoying killing too much... It should never be something anyone considers 'fun'.

Mmm, I only kill a handful of times a year. The rest of the time, I have much less intense ways of getting what I need. :: A small smirk crosses his face and he looks up and down Gellert appraisingly::
