movie meta: runaway cops

Jun 22, 2013 12:25

this has been in my gdocs for too long, and I don't feel like adding anything anymore. sorry for the messiness.

for the sake of familiarity, I’m addressing them using their real names rather than their characters. (hyuksoo is soohyuk’s real name)

youngkwang - seungu

hyuksoo  - seonho

CANON

basically these are all their scenes.

[2:26] hyuksoo walks the runway, someone fell from the top and he simply stepped over her (or him, i can’t remember the gender)

[41:05] youngkwang works as a waiter in a samgyupsal restaurant.

[41:41] hyuksoo goes skating with his manager.

[44:37] youngkwang directs(?) the runway. // makes sure everyone walks properly.

[47:04] youngkwang tries on his piece for the runway.

[48:10] youngkwang has a conversation with cheolsu (the main character) in the shower. They discussed

  • why he wants to model. “to me, a runway is like drugs. when I first was on the runway I felt scared and nervous. the runway seemed too far. but now i think it’s too short. i want to walk more. more. “.

  • Cheolsu mentions hyuksoo, and youngkwang wasn’t bothered when he talked about the someone-fell-from-the-top-of-a-runway scandal, but he freezed for a second when he mentioned the drug rumour.

  • Youngkwang explains their past. “we used to be close. even live together, but now i don’t care anymore.”

also, he’s shirtless throughout the whole scene.

[51:53] The two leads have a conversation on their past relationship. They used to be friends, until one day youngkwang missed a show, hyuksoo stepped in, and after hyuksoo became famous they drifted apart.

[somewhere in between] cheolsu overhears a phone conversation between hyuksoo and Mr. Tak.  “do what ever you want, i don’t care. i don’t want to do this anymore.” receiving threats. cold and calm throughout the whole time. “but mr. tak your tricks won’t work anymore. “. when he found cheolsu, he tells him to drive him home. (probably because cheolsu was being suspicious.)

[56: 58] in hyuksoo’s house. he’s arrogant. he asked about the runway. cheolsu pulled off the “runway is too short, i want to walk more” quote, and hyuksoo seemed to reminisce something when hearing it. he asks how seung u is doing. “he’s a nice guy. don’t touch him.”.

[1:10 something] youngkwang tells off hyuksoo in a bar about the drugs (implicitly), and he’s all defensive about it. “i didn’t want any of it.”

[1:40 something] both of them meet for the rehearsal. Hyuksoo tells Youngkwang that he’s had enough and he’s surrendering himself to the police after all this ends.

[1:40 something] hyuksoo gives Mr. Tak a drink that is drugged.

[1:50 something] The Runway show ends, Youngkwang says goodbye to Hyuksoo. Hyuksoo walks towards the police.

/**there’s also a scene where mr. tak talks to youngkwang about the longevity of his model career, and possible hints that he had something to do with the drugs.*/

In summary, there are a lot of holes in their plotline. Eg: how is youngkwang related to Mr. Tak, and why did hyuksoo suddenly change his mind about the drugs?  One minute they’re telling off each other in a club, the next thing they’s shyly smiling in a dressing room. There’s just so much space for possibilities. Thus the headcanon.

But tbqh, i still don’t understand the drug plot. what does hyuksoo do actually? does he smuggle the drugs for other models? and what’s with all the miss congeniality operation? mr. tak’s team hardly seem to be that hard to beat, or professional/scary in any sense, like the police won over with a fist fight, why sponsor a whole fashion show for a drug operation that...wasn’t even entirely solved by the police. hyuksoo gave himself in, the police didn’t even keep an eye on him. It’s like that wasn’t the point anyway. i didn’t get the story. but the main plot doesn’t matter. the subplot does.

HEADCANON

there’s something about hyuksoo moving to seoul with nothing but a duffel bag, protruded bones, and an empty soul. youngkwang finds him in the toilet of a fashion show but oddly not throwing up his intestines like everyone else who comes in the toilet for. “are you done throwing up?” “no actually i’m waiting for everyone to leave so i can sleep.”. youngkwang doesn’t know if it’s the lack of emotion in his deep voice or the perpetual idgaf stare in his eyes, but hyuksoo ends up in his apartment, on his bed with him doing nothing just laying there until they fell asleep.

When youngkwang wakes up, he’s still there. still sleeping. and the situation is so foreign in his system. it’s the first time he brings someone home and they don’t fuck, and it’s the first time he doesn’t wake up alone the morning after. it’s also the first time he bothers opening the fridge and scavenging through his cupboards for decent food and wondering why the fuck are there three boxes of tea in his fridge (keke sorry els).

when hyuksoo wakes up he has the biggest smile plastered on his face “that was the best sleep i ever had in my entire life. i actually dreamed something nice this time around” and youngkwang doesn’t know how to react to that. how to react to everything actually. he hasn’t been able to compute all the situations that has been thrusted upon him since hyuksoo’s arrival, and he doesn’t even know how to feel about /that/. He offers a small smile, and a cup of coffee. “you know, i still don’t know your name.” hyuksoo palms his face with his free hand, giggling. “we’re doing everything in reverse aren’t we?”

youngkwang teaches hyuksoo everything he knows about modeling: the walk, the face, the diet, the culture, the language, what to do and what not to do. introduces him to all the right people, gives him most of the small jobs that people offer to him. he did everything to help hyuksoo with his life. “is it your dream?” “what’s dreamy about this life anyway?”, and he did everything right, until he involves hyuksoo with his drug work.

Right, so how i see his past, is that he used to work for mr. tak regarding the drugs. but midway he decides he doesn’t want to, and mr. tak gets to hyuksoo. hyuksoo becomes youngkwang’s replacement, and when youngkwng comes home that night, he sees a tucked bed with a half empty closet and a single toothbrush in the toilet rather than two. hyuksoo’s mad because of the drugs, youngkwang’s mad because he walked out.

In the movie, youngkwang works as a waiter at a restaurant,I think he’s working because he stopped the drug work which reduces his income, and hyuksoo moved out of the apartment so the rent is double the load, so he’s broke, lonely, and has to work two jobs at once.

movie meta, hyuksoo, movie: runaway cops, youngkwang
