Just finished watching this, after waiting months for them to finish it and get it shipped to me . . .
Serious fangirl alert: This was such a great concert. It would have been really exciting to be there in person, but sometimes we have to settle for second best--and this was pretty good for second best. I could have wished for a better quality DVD and a large-screen TV to watch it on, but that being said, I had a great time!
I love lives. I love CDs, too, but lives, with all their imperfections, mistakes and rough patches, are the total music experience. And lives on DVD, even though it's a little watered down, are the closest I can usually come to that experience.
This final Crack 6 live of 2008 is a nonstop explosion of big, hard-rocking sound. Almost none of the "pretty" songs here. It's all about the beat and amazing guitar riffs and passion and spectacle. It's music to get lost in, a great way to shut out the pain and problems of real life.
Almost every song was a tribute to Chisato's love of metal. For example, he really ramped up 19 Submarine, which on the "get fired up" album rocks, but in a cheerful, pop sort of way. Here it was frantic, manic magnificence. And though I have some favorites I wish they'd done (I love "fire girl"), it was a good set list; the numbers flowed nicely into each other; the progressions worked really well. He's promised Crack 6 will be back (and they've already scheduled a live in March). I hope it continues; I want new music! But if not, I could easily immerse myself in this last live again.
And Chisato has never looked more beautiful.
