Interesting parallel.

The dresses are pretty. But I like Blair's dress better.

Poor Nate, even in the end he defends his best friend. Although, this time around it's true Chuck didn't do anything to Raina--it was all her father's fault.

Chuck let her look for her mom/ get her hopes up, even though he already knew she was dead. And he tried to persuaded Nate to lie to her as well, and to break up with her, even though he knew Nate really liked her.
But, yeah, Russel was the biggest jerk in that arc.

Well true Chuck did go along with the charade of letting Raina look for her mom; mostly, because he was doing it for himself--simply because he wanted to really believe her mom was still alive--just so that he didn't have to think that his own dad was a murderer.

And naturally, Chuck twisted Nate's arm to go along with it and even tried pushing his best friend into breaking-up with Raina.

However, in the end, Russell was responsible for the mess that he caused.

I didn't really make the parallel because I believe Chuck is responsible for both instances. I made it because when I watched 4x21, as someone who had rewatched and made a lot of art based on the Paris episodes, the scene very strongly reminded me of 4x02. I don't think it was intentional, but since Sara Goodman wrote both episodes I thought it was worth pointing out.

simply because he wanted to really believe her mom was still alive--just so that he didn't have to think that his own dad was a murderer.Yeah, which totally fits how I think of Chuck nowadays. He's not a monster, but he is an extremely selfish and self-centered person, and I feel like his actions in both scenes fit together in that sense -- running away to India, allowing Raina to get her hopes up (and getting his hopes up as well) that her mother was still alive. These are sort of things that Chuck frames as unselfish (your world would be easier without me in it, letting Raina think her mother is alive is better than knowing she's dead) which I think he has a history ( ... )

And unfortunately when Chuck claims to be doing everyone else the favor and instead is doing it for himself; in the end of it all, he does tend to make a huge mess out of the whole thing.

But because Chuck like think he's doing the right thing; all he does is make the situation, a lot worse. For not just himself but those around him.

At least, I think so sometimes.
