I don't think they're that weak at all.

Well, I should clarify that I DON'T see either Blair or Serena as weak characters. However, I do think the writers see them as weak. Since season 3, both have manipulated into having storylines where S is supposedly weak because she's "a slut" and Blair is supposedly weak because she's "a bitch." I think those are the very qualities that make them strong, but yet both S and B have had to apologize time and again in seasons 3-4 for those very characteristics. (Actually once can trace it back as far as season 2 but S and B were able to point out how their flaws could be strengths too so it was more evenly balanced.)

Contrast that to the men. Have Chuck or Nate EVER been put a storyline where they've been humiliated like Serena has for being sluts? No. Has Dan EVER been put a storyline where he's been made to feel weak like Blair because he's judgmental by times? No. The girls get punished for characteristics that shouldn't be considered character damning qualities, while the guys get let off the hook and even celebrated for those very things. Neither Blair nor Serena should have been made to feel weak over those qualities but yet BOTH their storylines were engineered to make them feel bad for not not being traditional minded females this season. Blair isn't bad because she's a bitch and Serena isn't awful because she's not traditional about sexuality. Yet, that's the message we're getting from the writers this season.

What I think is absolute, though, is that *EVERYTHING* on this show is for the sake of drama.

LOL! Very true. :D
