Defeatocrats

I'm trying to figure something out, and am having an extremely difficult time. It's about the Democrats in Congress, and neither choice is very good, although one is a hell of a lot better than the other. They are either so stupid and ignorant that they honestly don't understand the consequences of their vote; or so evil, selfish, and heartless that they understand perfectly well but just don't care, and would rather have Iraq and our troops suffer as long as they gain more power. I'm hoping for the former, but fear it is the later.

Retreating will lead to Iraq becoming a satellite of Iran and turn it into a training/staging ground for Hezbollah for their attacks on the West (primarly Israel and America). We will be abandoning the 25 million people whom we just freed, and will look weak to Islamic terror groups, prompting more recruitment and attacks. Not to mention that should the fragile democracy of Iraq fall, all hope for further peace and democratization throughout the region will also fail.

Pertinent Info

Senate vote passes 51-46, with only Hagel and Smith crossing over to the wrong side. Lieberman voted against, and McCain abstained.

More on the vote here and here

Lieberman's full speech. [Long but worth the read] Also Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY) speech. [Alot shorter, at only a minute]

What the Brookings_Institution [center-left] has to say about leaving Iraq.

I think ultimately, the Sunni Arabs would be mostly defeated, and they would essentially be ghettoized in the western part of their country without much oil, very angry at the world, and therefore even more likely to collaborate with al Qaeda. [...] You know, I’m not saying that it would destabilize the entire Persian Gulf, but there would be some chance of a regional war, and a very high chance of genocide inside Iraq.

Finally, the (in)famous Michelle Malkin cheerleader video.

dems, iraq
