I had a major nerdgasm yesterday when I heard that Peter Jackson has acquired the film rights to a recent series of historical fantasy novels by a woman called Naomi Novik. I haven't read them yet (will soon, though) but they are set during the Napoleonic Wars, only with dragons. I failed bursary design because, while my smarter friends were doing actual work, I just wanted to draw silly pictures of grim-faced redcoats in stovepipe shakos. That's what happens when 17-year-olds are allowed to read bollocks boy's own fiction like the Sharpe series. So the Napoleonic Wars? Check. Dragons? Check. Peter Jackson? Sure, why not? It's a fanciting geektacular!
The Craccum team came second in the Shads pub quiz on Tuesday. I think I might be some kind of jinx or something, because they haven't won in ages.
I seriously needed a new mattress, so I bought a futon. Tried it out for the first time last night, and it was more comfort than I know how to deal with.
Right now I'm recoding a doco called Live Forever, about Britpop in the '90s. Initially I thought it was going to be quite interesting, but it is just reminding me how much Britpop always makes me want to nuke the UK.
