Despite the snow/freezing rain storm that hit yesterday and mechanical problems on the part of the airline, I did get out to Winnipeg yesterday as planned. It was a bit of a tight turnaround to get from my flight to my concert, but I did make it.
I went to see the Lord of the Rings symphony performed with the movie on huge projection screen. It was really something. Since the beginning, I have loved Howard Shore's work and dreamed of performing it in symphony myself. It wasn't the same as performing, but I got a lot out of watching. What a marathon work to do! I still want to try it. Also, kudos to the boy who did the 'In Dreams' solo at the end. You could tell he was nervous, and wavered a bit at the beginning, but he really pulled it off after a shaky start. Way to go! The venue itself left a bit to be desired, but on the whole it was a worthwhile evening. The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra did an admirable job with their performance and were very well in sync with the projection, which is truly a challenge. The french horn solo in 'the ring goes south' was rich, full and smoothly majestic.
I stayed in a hotel for simplicity's sake and didn't actually spend much time enjoying it. Breakfast was pretty good though... banana split pancakes. Yum! My chiropractic adjustment went well, and I feel much better. It's nice to be able to move my neck again. I spent the rest of the day running errands madly, renewing my international driver's licence for this summer and searching for a wagon or cart to do dryland training with the dogs. No luck on that front, but I tried.
My flight back this afternoon went on time and for the first time since moving to Berens I didn't have any excess baggage! The critters were happy to see me and seem no worse for wear. I've been fooling around online most of the evening and I managed to find the London recording of the LOTR musical which I saw the world premier of in Toronto a couple summers ago. I had always wanted a CD, but apparently it wasn't released until about 6 weeks ago. I am, however, incredibly jazzed... if only for the 'Now and for Always' song that has stuck in my head ever since that night. Now all I need to do is finish downloading it on iTunes.
Exhausting, but a good day.
