It appears yet another person has forgotten how to cross the road. So now the council is looking at how to make Druitt St "safer for pedestrians". I cross this road every day, right in front of the bus stop. I know how crowded it gets and I know how dangerous this bit of road is.

I have the solution.

Be prepared, this may sound harsh. That's because it is.

When I was a kid I was taught an important lesson. It went like this:

If you need to cross the road there are some steps you must follow;
First STOP. This means you do not simply dash across the road when you get to it.
Then LOOK. Look right, look left, look right again. Ensure there are no cars coming.
While looking, LISTEN. Listen for the sound of approaching busses. Turn your iPod off. Get off your damn mobile.
Once you are sure nothing is coming, you may WALK. Walking means "not running". Keep looking left and right as you cross to ensure you remain aware of your surroundings.

Simple, no?

It's even easier when there are lights.
RED MAN means DO NOT CROSS.
GREEN MAN means YOU MAY CROSS IF IT IS SAFE. (see above for how to figure out if it is safe)

So, on to my solution: Put those silly fucking speakers that have been installed to good use. Play the song that they used to sing on Play School about crossing the road. If grown adults still insist on crossing against the lights, into the path of oncoming busses they have only themselves to blame.

The only other way to make it "safer for pedestrians" is to wall off the entire road and force them to walk up to George St.

stupidity, lessons
