Finally caving in. Basic premise of what happens to Date in the game's Ten Years Later alternate timeline, with some tl;dr about relationships and the like whenever I feel like it.

While Date never knew Spirit that all well, his death was still something that affected him greatly since essentially the strongest fighter they had on their side was just slain. All of Death City and Shibusen mourned for him and in spite of trying to pick up the pieces, things came out for naught when the kidnapped victims they had been so desperately searching for returned - never to be the same again, as the experiments had warped their minds and souls into something else entirely. The first of the Modified Witches who Date would come to face often in the next decade that he would be here. Scarecrow's improved fear gas swept across the city as well, doing much to further fracture the already broken morale of Shibusen and Death City itself. Fortunately the combined efforts of everyone there managed to drive away their attackers, but the damage had already been done - many people were already lost in this battle, and this was only just the beginning of the end.
The following months came to see even more attacks across the world by the Witches, who had their numbers boosted with every passing day as they caught and made more Modified Witches from whoever seemed usable enough. Every day came with the ever increasing number of victims who had fallen to fear gas or slain by Kishin Eggs. The Madness Wave also continued to spread across the world and turn much more intense as the Witches roamed free for the first time in hundreds of years along with the Kishin Eggs. Left and right more and more people fell, and Shibusen had to struggle in order to just stay on their feet. It was clear, however, that this was nothing but an uphill war and a steadily losing battle as ever so surely their resources and ability were being sapped and drained.
Every battle Shibusen fought grew harder and more difficult, as constant attacks by the Witches all around forced them to spread their resources thin. Everyday the barrier on the city weakened further as the Kishins and Witches chipped at it without rest as well, and the added news of Asura being on the move did nothing but further dampen the hopes that Shibusen wanted to keep. Their greatest fighter slain, and their greatest foe awakened and moving across the world... indeed, it seemed like nothing was going to be ever for them right here by this point in time.
In August of the year 2010 - about a whole year since Date first entered this world - Shibusen officially started the evacuation of residents to the underground as the threat of the Kishins and Witches were proving to be too much for the barrier to handle; it would fall at anytime, and fleeing underground was the only option they had in order to survive. Date himself hardly liked this option, but he saw little choice in the matter and so was forced to head underground as well. In the next month the a splinter group led by China decided to leave what remained of Shibusen and retreat to a haven in the mountains, and they would eventually form what would be known as the Claming Wavelength Community. Date himself decided to stay in Shibusen - there were people still here who he had long since come to regard as important, and he looked at it as his duty and responsibility to protect them.
What Date didn't expect however was the betrayal Vergil - a person who Date had long since come to regard as a close friend and trusted companion. His departure shook Date more than he would have liked to admit, and Genesis' later departure after his Meister did little to help Date in that regard as well. His own Weapon partner - Dante - had long since been returned by BREW along with Koujurou, and more than ever Date found himself alone in this world once more. He had hoped for their return, but that hope was gone however when the Witches came into possession of BREW and for some unknown reason stopped working entirely.
Needless to say, the loss of BREW meant that Shibusen no longer could get help from whatever worlds BREW took them from. Now, the only fighters left were those who were still in this world - and perhaps now they were stuck for good. The news of this devastated Date more than ever before; just like this, he had lost everything he had been trying to fight for. Fortunately at least by now he had made many more friends and comrades, and it was because of them did Date manage pull himself together and keep himself focused on what needed to be done. The time for mourning and regretting could come later.
Thus like this, alone and cut off from his world for good did Date continue to push on no matter the circumstances, still fighting for the sake of those he needed to protect here. He grew closer with many people, eventually having a small rag-tag group of people under his command (such as Rin, Hope, Naruto and some other riff-raffs) as he eventually came to be one of the unit leaders with Spitfire as his Weapon partner. In a way Date came to regard them as his new family - the Oshu he gained here when he had lost the true Oshu he had once ruled over. The passing years changed Date more than ever, and in time to come the once young warlord grew up with an outlook of life that perhaps was influenced from Koujurou - even if his retainer never going to be here with him, Date did well to keep his teachings in his heart and soul.
Years passed and the war dragged on, and eventually Date came to discover what exactly happened to Vergil - joining the Witches, he had undergone modification to be a Kishin himself. Toughed and battle-hardened as he was even by now, the news still shocked Date immensely; though later knowing that Genesis was fine did make him feel better. Still, he failed to persuade the other to return and aid Shibusen in their (slowly losing) war. An irony, perhaps, that now all of them were so divided - but still, all Date could do was to continue to hold his ground and fight for what he needed to fight for.
Later down the road Date was caught in an attack by the Witches while out on a mission, and the ending result had him beat and Spitfire captured. The guilt of this incident weighs heavily in Date's soul, and by now it was common knowledge to know what had happened when the Witches got ahold of them. Spitfire was taken and modified to be with the Witches, and Date eventually got himself to partner up with another Weapon - Mei Li Wong, otherwise known as Taiwan. They came to develop a close relationship, though things would never be the same again. But still, Date tries - though admittedly, its hard to repair what has already been broken many times.
That's how Date's been now in the years before the TYL four arrived - leader of a gang of rag-tag individuals who he had come to see as a family, unit leader of Shibusen and just somebody who's still trying to fight in order to protect what he sees worth defending and dying for. He's matured greatly, and though all these years he still sees himself as the One Eyed Dragon - not of Oshu, but simply of the people he fights in order to protect. No matter where or when he is, a dragon is still meant to soar, and a dragon who doesn't soar might as well be dead.
