Right. I haven't had a student since I got kidnapped out of my own dojo and stuck into this whole damn mess but I still know how to fight, so why the hell not?

Asuka, get your tiny ass to the gym in 20 minutes.

shinji, asuka

Seeing as you're Japanese and not German, I'll take that as a compliment.

-And, likely much to Asuka's chagrin, Shinji is there as well. However, he doesn't seem to notice her, as he's practicing with a wooden sword far off in the corner. Where he might have looked like a fool doing it before, he now seems to be rather adept at swinging it around, making precise cuts in the air.-

Hoo! This actually feels pretty good when you get the hang of it. Hah! Yah! Hah! I'd bet this'll make Asuka jealous.

Probably the synchro training, Third.

Now stay over there and play with your stick while I learn some real combat.

Gah! Get out of my head! Who's in there, is that...

Oh, Asuka, when did you get there? And I'll look forward to it, I guess.

-But Shinji seems content simply to ignore her and continue with his training.-

There you are. Let's see what you're capable of.

- Not one to waste time when he finally got started on something, Ryouma tossed Asuka an axe. Not a real axe, the man wasn't completely insane. But it had more or less the proportions of the Eva's progressive axe. It was, however, twice as heavy as an weapon this size had any right to be. -

*Though Asuka catches and maintains her grip on it, the axehead clunks to the floor quickly thanks to the unexpected weight.*

Geez, what's this thing made out of? *hefts it, with difficulty* You know, strength training isn't going to do a hell of a lot for me as opposed to agility or technique. Eva piloting's more about muscle memory than physically throwing punches.

More stamina never hurts, and if your weapon makes you tired just to swing it, you'll learn to make your attacks count. I've always said that combat training should be so hard that getting to the actual fight is a relief.

Now let's see just what you know about fighting!

- And with that, Ryouma attacks with his own weapon of choice, a smaller hand axe, also a training weapon but also double weight. Not with all his strength, but with just enough to make Asuka really have to work to not get knocked on her back with some nasty bruises. -

What th-

*Asuka defends, sloppily, using the heavy axe as a shield for a few strokes before changing her tactic, suddenly dropping the axe as she ducks under a swing and tries to bullrush the taller man, using the weight of her whole body to make up for her strength disadvantage and knock him over*

Ryouma was taken back a step, but mostly by surprise. He reached down, peeled the girl off, and tossed her backwards a few paces. "It's obvious you have no idea what you're doing here, but you have good instincts, and that was some good improvisation. You don't forget that your body is as much a weapon as anything you're holding. Now let's actually teach you some things."

For a start, Ryouma showed her the proper stance for fighting with an axe. He surveyed his handiwork, made a few corrections, then nodded, "Right. Now: again!"

And with a shout he attacked once more.

*This time, Asuka manages a more professional defense, but the axe still slows her down without the muscles of an enormous synthetic humanoid to back her up.*

Looks like...I'm gonna have to schedule...some weight training. Heh. I suppose training with knives is out of the question?

*In the end, she's reduced to trying to lock up Ryouma's axe head with her own while parrying, then kick him in the kneecap and back off to catch a breath*

In a normal fight, Ryouma would have just powered through her parry and relied on his suprior body mass. In the interests of being a good teacher, though, he countered her parry in a way that didn't rely on strength, then nimbly stepped back to avoid the kneecap kick.

"You've definitely got the potential. We'll switch to knives later on, but for now, we keep at this!"

And so continued the long, grueling training session that ended with Asuka on the ground not entirely sure of what had happened many, many times.

*Lying on the ground, exhausted and bruised*

So, lesson today is, "Don't use weapons that are too heavy", or "Stay in the giant muscular cyborg if you want to fight" or...you know forget it, too tired for witty remarks.

The lesson today is don't give up if you can't get good in one day. You won't get good by giving up and you won't win fights by backing down.

I think you'll be recovered enough for round two by, say, Thursday.

Back down? Hah, you obviously don't know me. And this still beats that synchrodance crap.

Wednesday. Tomorrow I just need to find somewhere to start weight training if I'm going to use that stupid axe. Maybe if Mao's PT wasn't at godforsaken-early-in-the-morning...
