Test Log Twenty Three | ...Maybe I'll stop feeling so bad

[Action for household: GLaDOS sits alone in her house. Alone. ....again. The drone who pretended to be her lunatic was no company so GLaDOS had thrown her out of the house.

She listened. And walked off.

No stubbornness at all.  Nothing like her.

Caroline was saying that she missed her. Caroline could shut up any time thank  you. It didn't matter. She ( Read more... )

(Well, this is...a surprise. Miss Pauling looks up from the records at the sound of that familiar voice.)

Good afternoon Miss GLaDOS. And it depends on what sort of music you prefer.

I don't know. Opera music is what I remember the best. I'd like to find more music though.

You could try for some of the classical works then. Here, try some Mozart. He's written some operas as well and he's generally regarded as one of the best composers in history. If you've heard the Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, or Don Giovanni, well, they're all written by him.

(She passes her Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmuzik.)

[Takes it.]

Alright.

I didn't know you liked opera music though, Miss GLaDOS. Do you have any favorites?

I don't usually. But I might as well try some music here. It's not like I can do any real science.

Real science? I'm afraid I don't really understand what you mean by that, but I'm sure that there's a lot of things in Mayfield that have yet to be explained. Maybe you can try testing those instead?

I mean with test chambers.

Do you need them to run tests?

Proper tests. Of course you do.

You can do tests here, but it's never the same.

Would it be possible for you to build your own test chambers here? I'm sure there are lots of inventors around town who'd be willing to help.

My test chambers are a bit....special. I have complete control of them so I can create any possible testing scenario.

I see your problem then. Pardon me if I'm wrong Miss GLaDOS, but I'm guessing that the test chamber was something like a body to you back home? In the sense that all you had to do was think, and the test chambers would react accordingly.

No. I had a chassis that served that purpose.

But I could control every panel in that building, and all the functions in it as well.

[Small dreamy sigh. Man she misses that. In control for a few hours and then ripped right back out.]

It was wonderful.

(Miss Pauling had to blink for a moment. That was very much like the Administrator she knew. She's seen the giant monitoring device her employer used, and all its functions. She also knew how much joy the Administrator drew from employing it to keep herself updated on the mercenaries. It was a sense of power and control, that was what she had been told once.)

It would definitely make running tests a lot more interesting. There's a lot of different combinations you could carry out, and you wouldn't be limited either.

If I'm not mistaken though, I've heard that there are some geniuses in Mayfield who might be able to help you accomplish something similar to that. From what I've been told, there's a certain Mr Klaus and a Dr Doofenshmirtz who seem pretty capable of building something you've just described to me.

[She rolls her eyes.]

I still wouldn't be an AI. Which is the main part of what I need.
