in the last few days summer has finally seemed to click. I will almost, almost be sad to see it over. Almost. Not quite. I enjoy my mother's house once in a while, because it really is a retreat into the woods where there is no mess and no children. It's also almost like a beach house--go down the road and you're there. I've been going there sporadically all summer; by myself, during the day, when all my friends are at work. The other day I actually got up off my towel and walked into the water, and it was so unbelievably wonderful. It stretches out so far it looks like an ocean, and the rocky jetty has that red-and-white lighthouse. The water is the most perfect temperature in the world, and the sand is rippled just below the surface as you walk further out into the lake, not a fish or strand of seaweed in sight. And it's all free, and five minutes from my house, and I don't have to buy a beach sticker every year from the town hall. And there is always, always a parking space.
I ran into Teddy Geiger at Pottery Barn.
