Fandom: The Avengers
Subject: Steve Rogers/Janet Van Dyne
Title: Give Your Heart A Break
Warnings/Notes: Even though Janet hasn't been introduced as a character into the MCU (yet), this takes place after the events in The Avengers. Mix is from Steve's point of view. Also lots of images.
Steve Rogers aka Captain America: Steve Rogers is the leader of the Avengers. He is a man out of time as he was frozen in the 1940s and got discovered and thawed out in present day.
Janet Van Dyne aka Wasp: Janet Van Dyne is a wealthy socialite and the daughter of scientist Dr. Vernon Van Dyne, who was killed by an alien during an experiment. Janet ends up falling for his colleague, Dr. Henry Pym, who exposes her to Pym Particles, which gives her wings and the ability to shrink in size, fly and shoot "wasp stings". She gives herself the code name "Wasp". She is one of the founding members of the Avengers and is the one who names the team.
(FWIW, Emily Blunt is my Janet Van Dyne and Armie Hammer is my Hank Pym.)
Steve Rogers/Janet Van Dyne: After the events in The Avengers, Steve leaves the team and rides off on his motorcycle to go meet Janet, who is going to help get him acclimated to the modern world. Though Janet is in a relationship with Dr. Henry Pym aka Ant Man, she starts to develop feelings for Steve and he develops feelings for her as well. Since Hank prefers to spend most of his time working in his lab as opposed to working with the Avengers, Steve becomes Janet's new partner on the team, and the two often go on missions together. During a long mission overseas, the two begin an affair that continues when they are back home with the rest of the team.
Though they care about each other, the more time they spend with each other, the more they realize how incompatible they are. Steve becomes annoyed with Janet's lifestyle and often thinks she's shallow, and Janet often finds him to be too stubborn and serious. They both end up comparing each other to their past loves, Steve comparing her to Peggy and Janet comparing him to Hank. All of this combined leads them to break off their affair. Hank returns to the team to become Janet's partner again, and Steve starts teaming up with Agent 13 aka Sharon Carter, whom he later begins to date. Steve and Janet remain friendly for the sake of the team, but otherwise have almost nothing to do with each other. Although both of them wonder from time to time if maybe they were really meant for each other and that ending things was a mistake.
