Subject: The Avengers
Title: The Kids Are Alright
Warnings/Notes: Suicidal imagery and themes. Character death. Spoilers for The Avengers and The Royal Tenenbaums.

The Avengers is a movie about a team of superheroes who come together through the assistance of S.H.I.E.L.D. to battle the forces that are trying to attack the earth.

The Royal Tenenbaums is a movie about the Tenenbaum children who grew up being hailed as geniuses but find themselves facing nothing but disappointment and failure in their adult years. Their father, Royal, left the family when they were children, but years later, after realizing he has become broke, fakes having cancer and attempts to reconnect with his family.

"Royal Tenenbaum bought the house on Archer Avenue in the winter of his 35th year. Over the next decade, he and his wife had three children, and then they separated."

"All memory of the brilliance of the young Tenenbaums had been erased by two decades of betrayal, failure and disaster."

The AU - A Team of Geniuses: Tony Stark is Iron Man, the leader of the Avengers along with his wife, Pepper Potts. The Avengers base is in the basement of Stark Tower on Archer Avenue where he, Pepper, his best friend and assistant Col. James Rhodes, and the rest of the team lives. The Avengers have three core members: Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, and Clint Barton. Steve is Captain America, a soldier from World War II who became frozen in ice and later thawed out in present day by Tony. Steve's past friendship with Tony's deceased father causes friction between the two. Natasha is a former Russian spy who joined the Avengers but never quite feels like she fits in. She is known for her extreme secrecy. Clint is an archer and is Natasha's partner. He is secretly in love with her but knows they can't be together because it would affect their professional partnership.

Tony has a breakdown and leaves Pepper and the Avengers to fight by himself, with the occasional help of Col. Rhodes. Without Tony, the team suffers and people stop looking to them for help. Meanwhile, Tony isn't finding success on his own either and decides to try his hand at making weapons. When Loki invades Earth from another realm, no one wants to face off with him, so his brother Thor seeks out The Avengers as a last resort.

The Avengers are not quite up to the task. Pepper tries to rally the team along with the help of her longtime friend, Agent Phil Coulson, but they face their fair share of obstacles. Steve suffers from anxiety and has never quite gotten over all he had to leave behind when he was frozen. Natasha picks up occasional solo jobs but spends most of her time with Clint's best friend, Dr. Bruce Banner, even though that doesn't make her happy. Clint leaves the Avengers and tries to deal with his feelings for Natasha, which won't go away. While he's gone he encounters Loki, who manipulates his feelings and reveals all of Natasha's secrets to him, which is too much for him to bear. All the while Tony, with the assistance of Col. Rhodes, tries to get back on the Avengers' good side and tries to get between Pepper and Phil.

Eventually Clint is able to shake Loki's influence and reunites with Natasha and Steve. The three reluctantly accept Tony's assistance, as well as some help from Bruce's alter ego, The Hulk, and they along with Thor take on and defeat Loki, with Tony making the ultimate sacrifice in the end.

Afterwards, though things are nowhere near back to being normal, everyone is able to begin the healing process.

Gonna substitute a car chase and a race across the rooftops
Where the father saves the children and he holds them in his arms

Once there was a way to get back home
