CHARACTER
NAME: Suzumiya Haruhi
GENDER: Female
AGE: Sixteen
RACE: God 'Human'
FANDOM: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
TIMELINE PERIOD: Post episode-9 (broadcast)/post episode-14 (chronologically). Basically, end of season 1.

BACKGROUND: Haruhi is a first year student at high school - at first glance she is noted as being smart, athletic, and having good natural ability in just about anything. On a closer look, she is eccentric, easily excited or on the other hand bored, crazy, upbeat, not shy, and pretty much an unpredictable girl. She has a love for anything paranormal or out of the ordinary, even going as far as to state on her first day at school that she wishes to talk to 'aliens, espers, and time travellers', and is disappointed at the lack of response. In doing so, she sets up the SOS Brigade, the 'Spreading Excitement All over the World with the Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade', in an attempt to find aliens, espers, and time travelers (it's true purpose is to prevent her from becoming bored and thus, destroying the world). She recruits four other members, three of which fall into the catogary of aliens, espers and tiem travellers, though this is unbeknowst to her. The only character Haruhi takes up who is not one of those three is Kyon - the first one who engages her in serious conversation.

Haruhi is also very competative, and will take up any challenge given to her, even if it is nigh impossible that she will succeed - it usually falls to the combined force of the SOS Brigade to see it through. Due to her exterior of being mischevious, she doesn't take praise too well, often being nervous around and unsure how to react.

Her childhood is the cause of her obsession with the unknown - she believed herself to be important and to be special, but when attending a baseball game, realised just how small and insignifcant to the world she really was. Thus, she sought to be a person who was unique and special, and not just like everyone else. It was around this time when Haruhi entered middle school that her 'powers' seemed to come into effect. Espers suddenly became aware of their powers, time travellers couldn't travel back further than then, and aliens became interested in the abilities she had.

In her world, Haruhi is the eqivalent to 'god'. She has the power to change, destroy, or create a new reality based on her inner desires and feelings. If she gets angered or something doesn't go away, she'd create 'closed space', which is basically a universe directly alternate to the real world, where monsters would rampage. If left that way, it would eventually seep into the real world. If she wanted anything, say, 'a mysterious transfer student', it would likely happen. If she grew bored with the world, she could also change it to suit her needs - once, she almost did just that, recreating the world once again. Fortunately, she brought Kyon with her on the ocassion, and he righted the world to the way it should be. Weirdly enough, she is unaware of her powers to literally 'change the world' and what she can do, and it is important it is kept that way.

However, in Rivelata, the rules of Haruhi's world seem to not apply - all of her powers cause no effect, and are dormant for the time being.
