I'm still pretty much in denial that the thing happened at VA Tech, so I'm not going to really talk about that for awhile. I will say that D and my griping about student emails seems pretty trivial now.
What's more cheerful is that we're married now and the first two weeks of marital bliss have been, well, blissful. I think we're still walking around in a bit of a daze when we think about:
1. How simple it is to get married in Canada. They are very civilized up there; we went to the Vital Statistics Office, laid down ID and $100 bucks Canadian, and we were ready for the commissioner.
2. Our Commissioner was a peach. I liked her so much, I want to get married again by her. Or at least make sure all my gay friends who get married use her. If you want to know her name and want to get married in Canada, let me know.
3. When we crossed the border, we became unlawfully married. Weird.
We're going to the Earth Day thing Saturday--rumor is that Bill and Hill will be there. We were joking (sort of) today that we might make buttons that say things like "Thanks for DOMA, Bill" and "Married in Canada" or "Ask about my Wife".
We had a good trip and Oregon, Washington, and Vancouver were all lovely. Getting to see Stacy and Lisa and to have them with us at the wedding was fantastic.
We're planning a trip that is about nothing other than us getting out and doing stuff somewhere else, though, for the summer. D won't be in school (and this will probably be the last summer for that) and I just finished teaching The Awakening and I think we're going to head down to Grand Isle sometime in the next month or two. Our plan is to go through Lafayette and over to Lake Charles too, maybe with a stop in New Orleans on the way home.
