Running is harder than step aerobics on a 6 inch platform.
I know this because it was raining at 7 am this morning, so we slept in. I decided to do step because we aren't running tomorrow and I'd like to keep a workout cycle of at least 3 times a week, and I am hoping step will help me lengthen my stride. Also, we ran half of our run on Saturday in the grass, and I was suddenly aware of muscles I've not been using.
So, I set up the platform after debating 4 inches or 6. I went with 6, thinking that I'd probably have to knock it back. I didn't. It turns out that after 10 or 11 weeks of running, I am in better shape than I was after doing months of step. I didn't have to lower it, didn't have to take a single water break, talked back to the video the whole way.
So, if you are like I used to be, and you believe the hype that step aerobics is more effective than running, I hate to break it to you, but we were wrong.
