I need to download my fics more than ever. I was terribly disappointed not to be able to download from Midnight Whispers as I had been able before. Is it still possible? I'm having a very difficult time with the site.
I had the same problem so what I did was download a PDF program from CNET, it's free, and used it as my default printer. Then I would bring up my stories on MW. By the reviews there is a printer icon. Click on it and save as PDF. You can then load these onto any computer or tablet.
Midnight Whispers seems to be down. I was on there yesterday reading a story but today is says "File not Found" and I've tried multiple links. Anyone else having trouble??
Check that you've converted your old midnightwhispers.ca/ URLs into midnightwhispers.net/ with everything else the exact same, making sure that u don't insert a space either b4 or after the new 'net' Until recently the net or web (or site or something??) was automatically converting it but now if I use the old URLs I get the 404, file not found message. When that happens, while it's still on the screen, I just put the cursor after the 'a' (in .ca before the /) up in the URL bar, backspace twice, type in net, then enter. That makes it work for me.
Thank you for mentioning that. We had to convert the site to a new domain name due to a change in ownership (the original owner was in Canada), and to resolve some ongoing system issues, the change from .ca to .net had to be done sooner than expected (it was being automatically redirected from .ca to .net before). So changing links to 'net' rather than 'ca' should solve most, if not all, of the problems. If anyone continues to have any sort of issues, please send me a PM and I'll we'll look into it. ~Kim
Got a little sidetracked with amydambly's inability to get on the site...you seem able but just can't download...but do u get the whole (if multi-chapter) fic, printer ready (w/no sidebars or MW banner, etc) when u click on the printer icon? (after clicking 'cancel' on any drop down menu you'll probably get on your computer) If so, as a last ditch effort, u should be able to copy (highlight & scroll all the way down or preferably 'select all') & then paste it onto say a new word.doc on your computer. Once you've got it like that, you're able to adjust the font, size, line spacing, margins, etc. & then convert it into a PDF or any other form u want.
I get what you are saying, but I download to my Nook or rather to Calibre then my Nook. If I go that route of copy and paste, I don't get the contents listed and I'm unable to access the different chapters. This is important because I listen to my fics and sometimes I need to access the latest update. I don't want to have to copy and download every single chapter. I also would like to re-read certain chapters and downloading is the only way to do that. And, when a story is updated I can update the previous downloaded story instead of coping the fic all over again.
I know it sounds picky and complicated, but once you get use to driving a car, it's hard to go back to a horse and buggy (no offense to horse and buggy drivers).
I don't know if this will help, but when I get a story from MW, I just click on the title, which takes me to a page where all the chapters are listed, click on the little printer icon on the right side of the screen.
This will bring up the entire story on a new tab. When it finishes loading, control+A (which highlights the entire story), control+c (to copy), open a Word Document, control+V (to paste). Save it as type "Rich Text Format" then convert to whatever in Calibre.
Maybe someone else knows a less "stepy" process, but it works for me & I still have the contents. I don't listen to my fics, so I don't know what to tell you about that, but maybe this will work for you. Hope so!
