Joan Marries Craig?

Apparently, there exists more than one AU in which Jennifer Taylor marries Jack Kinney, thus making Brian and Justin stepbrothers. My suspension of disbelief fails to kick in at the idea of Jennifer being tasteless enough to marry Jack ( Read more... )

Since Joan Kinney looks to be 20 years older than Craig, it's beyond squicky to me.

Also, the idea that any sane woman (which leaves out Joanie) would marry Jack
Kinney as he's portrayed in the show is ludicrous. And the age difference between
Jack and Jennifer Taylor is even greater than between Joan and Craig.

If Justin is 17 when the show begins and Jennifer had Justin when she was quite
young -- 18? 19? -- then she's closer to Brian's age. She'd only be in her mid-30's
at the time of the show's start.

I always assumed since Jennifer went to college, and married Craig just after college, that she was about 23 when Justin was born. And I always pictured Jennifer as having been in a sorority. She says, in the episode where Justin goes to Daphne's party and has sex with Kyle, that she did some pretty wild things in college.

I agree with you about Jennifer's age. Given that we know she went to college before marrying Craig, she had to have been at least 23ish when Justin was born--and likely older than that.

My mom married a month after college and had me a year later; she was 23 when I was born. I got married a year after college, delayed kids a few years, got delayed longer by infertility problems, and had my first kid at 30.

I have to laugh at your "pretty wild things" = sorority. I was in a sorority, and no "wild things" in my past.

Oh, haha, I wasn't actually thinking of it as "pretty wild things" = sorority.

She says to Brian and Justin that she did some "pretty wild things" (which I tend to think were things like skinny dipping once in mixed company, and on a French club trip to France having drinks with a married Frenchman: things Brian would find incredibly vanilla, whatever they were).

But I think Jennifer was in a sorority just because she's an upper middle class WASP of a certain age and a certain air.... Like, to be her age and of her social standing, joining a sorority would have been almost mandatory. And Jennifer doesn't learn to have her own opinions until after her son gets bashed, so she would have done what was expected.
If that makes sense.

That's an interesting spin mysid. I'd read it, if such an animal existed!

However, the idea of Joan Kinney marrying Craig Taylor doesn't seem as far fetched, especially if, as AU's often do, one minimizes the age differences between all the relevant parties. So, does such a fic exist?

I can't believe I remembered that someone asked for this, lol. I'm going through a lot of really old posts and, whaddya know, I (sort of) found a Joan marries Craig fic. Now, unless I'm missing something at the author's LJ, it doesn't look like they ever wrote more than two chapters, meaning it doesn't even really get started enough to be able to leave you hanging, lol. But I thought you might be interested to know that it at least occurred to someone! :)
