I'm going to take you out...

At a bit of a loose-end tonight (as ever) and so I started watching "Clerks 2" with the cast-commentary thinking that I hadn't heard it before. I had, and while I was enjoying it, at one point they mentioned "Trapped in the Closet", R. Kelly's Hip Hop "Opera". I hadn't noticed this reference the first time I watched "Clerks 2" with the commentary, but had since seen excerpts of "Trapped" on "Screenwipe" and found it bizarrely interesting, and so I had meant to check it out for a while; so I did. It certainly lived up to expectations, with the most incredible storyline, and some awful lyrics, but was certainly an amusing way to spend an evening. Watching it on "You Tube" meant that there were related films available as well, one of them being Weird Al Yankovich's take on "Trapped", the amazing "Trapped in the Drive-Thru". It is absolutely brilliant and Weird Al has picked up on some of the most irritating parts of the original (particularly the rhyming of a word with the same word) and ripped the piss out of it. While Weird Al's version is funny on its own, it's hysterical when you have seen the original. Of course, I also realised that the "South Park" guys had also done a spoof of the original in their attack on scientology.

In other news, not much has happened recently. I submitted my thesis and have done a lot of teaching and marking, as well as reorganising the departmental library and also chasing up university administrators to ensure that my postdoc starts on the 1st April. While the last few months have been socially pretty barren due to being a pauper, the next few weeks seem to be packed with many social occassions clashing. My year long anti-social hibernation is coming to an end... yippee!
