the improbable awesomeness of this makes me so happy. i can't believe how well you made the strange pairing work. their conversation seems natural and in character and the sex was just really, really hot.
Thank you! Getting this pairing to work was a bit of a challenge, so I'm very glad it came across as natural and in character. The conversations were the easiest parts to write - I can hear Spike's voice very clearly, although in my head he's a lot more authentically English than he is in the series, and he swears more. ;-)
OMG, this was just fabulous. Crazy, crazy pairing, and you totally made it work! I loved many things about this, not the least of which was Spike not being able to resist giving love life advice, because seriously, when has he not? And poor angsty Fraser, totally unphased by a vampire showing up at his house. This was great. Now I want, like, confrontation fic, where Spike shows up in Chicago six months later and Ray is all "you fucked this guy?" and there are more handcuffs!
Hi! Thanks for the lovely comments. I'm so glad the pairing worked for you, improbable as it most certainly is.
Spike not being able to resist giving love life advice
This is one of the things I really adore about Spike. Once I'd got that clear in my head, it was obvious that Fraser is a natural candidate for a serious talking to, and it all sort of went from there.
Spike shows up in Chicago six months later and Ray is all "you fucked this guy?"
Fab idea! Unfortunately I don't think I'll be in a position to write it for a while, though.
Fraser and Spike and bondagey goodness! And Fraser using Spike as a Ray subsitute, and poor Spike not being as tough as he'd like to think he is...as usual.
I love these guys, and I love the story.
(Only thing that kept stopping my eye is that Mountie should always have a capital M.)
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the feedback. Spike's such a fab character it's very hard not to have fun with him, especially when he's got as good an opportunity as this one to dish out the advice.
Like you, I love these guys - in my case far too much. It's a sickness, I tell you.
Thanks for the heads-up about the missing capitals. It was pointed out to me, but I forgot to sort it out. It's done now. :-)
This really shouldn't work, it shouldn't. I mean, Fraser & Spike? No freaking' way but ... damn, it works. So well. And it hurts seeing Fraser all miserable. And Spike really is a romantic, even without a soul yet.
Thanks! I'm glad it worked for you, although I absolutely agree that it shouldn't. It took a while to come up with a scenario that would allow Fraser to have sex with Spike - I'm not comfortable writing true non-con, and I couldn't see any way that Fraser wouldn't know he wasn't a normal human. So poor Fraser had to be miserable (yes, it hurts me too) but Spike's romantic nature comes to the rescue in the end. Love him. :-)
Aww, I love Spike in this, and how Fraser managed to get the better of him- of course. And yay for British swearing! Call it national bias if you will, but Spike's 'rude words but it'll get past the American censors anyway' style of speaking is captured brilliantly here.
Fraser being lonely, but not easily broken was a great touch, and the question of who was actually in control wasn't as clear as your Spike would like to have thought, bless him.
All in all, a lovely hot fic, with some great character moments from both shows. Thank you for this,
I'm really happy you thought that. I haven't watched Buffy for a while, so the Spike here is pretty much the one in my head, and I hoped he was reasonably authentic.
He certainly swears a lot more than he does on screen! I only realised how much when I read this back after posting. Like you, I love it when he comes out with a quaint but decidedly rude phrase. And if I've overdone it here it's probably my own less than polite voice creeping in. LOL.
the question of who was actually in control wasn't as clear as your Spike would like to have thought...
That's it in a nutshell, isn't it? Like so many instances in DS itself, and in lots of good DS fanfic. Never underestimate Fraser's hidden depths. *loves*
