Hi all! This is my first time actually posting here, since I haven't been on LJ in a couple years, but I found the community a couple months ago and I've been popping in every now and again to read fanfics :3 My name's Tab, and I'm actually in the process of translating the remaining volumes. As cool as it would be to say I read it in Japanese, I'm a French major in college and I plan on translating for a living in the future :) So I bought 28-39 from Luxembourg and I got to work!
Anyway, I had a couple questions about book 28, and I was wondering if any of you might be able to give me some insight on a couple points? Maybe if any of you have read the French version or if you've read a real good translation online somewhere? I want my foreshadowing to be effective, haha
Okay, so my first question is in flashback when Ban meets Yamato. All through the English translations, as you guys know, it's been said that Yamato worked as a Plunderer. In the French version, he introduces himself as a "récupérateur", the same word that the French version uses for Ban and Ginji; recoverers or retrievers. I am torn between changing this word back to "plunderer" be consistent with the previous Tokyopop volumes, or if I should keep it as "retriever/recoverer", mostly because I'm unsure if this is a major plot point or something. I am definitely probably over analyzing this but I just wanted to be sure! xD
Okay, and second question, what in god's name is a "thénan"? Akabane tells Ban that Himiko is this. I've read up to volume 32 and I've not seen an explanation for it so far. I checked the translation that's up on mangafox, and they translated it from Japanese as "loose end", but it doesn't really make sense in that context to me. Should I just take a leap of faith and leave it as Thénan, hoping it will be explained in a later volume, or does anyone have any insight on the meaning of that particular word?
If any of you guys have insight and the answers are super huge spoilers, can you try to be a bit ambiguous? Like I said, I haven't read past 32 yet :c
