Addison:

I watched Edward all day, waiting for him to talk to Bella. But he didn’t. Instead, he read the minds of Mike, Tyler, and Eric, and seemed amused. I didn’t care what they were thinking. I had better things to do than listen to the tragic minds of human boys who were having trouble controlling their hormones.

That was until one of the fucking morons came up to talk to me the next day.

"Umm, excuse me? Addison? Can I have a word?"

I looked up from my sketch to see a boy with black hair and blue eyes staring at me nervously. He had to be about 18.

"You already have, but go ahead." I tossed my head back proudly and stared at him, my golden eyes making him nervous.

"Will you come to the dance with me?" He eyed me nervously.

I sighed. "No. I’m sorry, but no. Now, if you need anything else...," I didn’t care if I was being a bitch.

"Oh. Ok then." Hurt filled his eyes, but I didn’t soften. He turned and left, and I closed my eyes. None of these boys, none of them, could replace Matthew.

Slamming my notebook shut, I headed to my music class.

I was surprised to see my whole family there, minus Carlisle who was working.

"Ok...what’s going on?" I set my bag down and looked at them all. My normal class was here, but my family?

"Addison, I asked your family to come," Ms. Winson said. I nodded mutely and Esme smiled.

"Attention class! Miss Cullen will be playing the piano for us. I want you all to pay attention. She shows dedication to music, unlike some of you." I exchanged a smirk with Edward as my teacher looked at Lauren and Jessica. Angela was already watching me.

She’s a sweet girl, I thought as I sat at the bench.

"What do you want me to play?"

Ms. Winson took a seat. "Whatever you want to."

I nodded and closed my eyes. How did I feel right now? That’s what I wanted to play, something that expressed my feelings.

I felt so many things, but what song could express it accurately? I heard people whispering, but family was relaxed. Alice however, snapped at the people.

"Shut up! She’s thinking of what to play!"

"Alice!" Esme said sharply.

I smiled and opened my eyes, setting my hands on the keys.

I started to play, the music and words flowing.

When the sun came up,
We were sleeping in,
Sunk inside our blankets,
Sprawled across the bed,
And we were dreaming,

There are moments when,
When I know it andThe world revolves around us,
And we're keeping it,
Keep it all going,
This delicate balance,
Vulnerable all knowing,

Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would, kill for this

Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would, you would...

Sing me something soft,
Sad and delicate,
Or loud and out of key,
Sing me anything,
we're glad for what we've got,
Done with what we've lost
Our whole lives laid out right in front of us,

Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would,

Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would, you would....

Sing me something soft,
Sad and delicate,
Or loud and out of key,
Sing me anything.

I don’t know where the song came from, but that’s how I played. I let the music choose me, not the other way around. I sensed everyone’s awe. Even Jessica and Lauren were surprised the "emo girl" could play the piano so well. I had my real mother and Edward to thank for that.

I finished to a stunned silence. Ms. Winston cleared her throat. The song I just played was "Existentialism On A Prom Night’ by Straylight Run."Very nice, Miss Cullen."

"Thank you ma’am."

"One more! Play something else!" someone yelled. I smiled.

"One of my favorites," I muttered.

I played "Inner Glow" by Blue October. There was "inappropriate" lyrics, but like I gave a damn. They wanted me to play piano, I was. And I would play my own way.

I'm like a storm cloud eager when you go out
Calm again
I'll ask permission for the wrong to win
Drop the bomb and get your story out and get it on
In a haze the beginning of your days
Gonna fall down
Got to get back up but at your own pace
Got to fill your cup and find the way
Out of your own maze
Yeah boy what you said now

And hide the rule book throw it in the waste
Look strong
Like you belong cause you do belong
Whether right or wrong you belong

I'm on your side if you fail at least you tried
To keep your aching celebrating wonder making heart alive
Yeah and pride don't keep it all inside
Don't keep your aching celebrating wonder making heart alone
Write you own song

Whatever happened to our inner glow
Whatever happened to the song the soul the me i used to know
Whatever happened to my radio
Whatever happened to my song
It is my song

So here's a preview shove it under old-new
Or call it rock or pop or bach or fuck
Goddamn where did we go wrong
Now there's a catergory for every song

Yeah we only want to sing when we want to
Yeah we only want a dream we can flaunt to
Yeah we only want to fly by the side making love to the rhythm be a jeckyl and a hyde
Yeah we only want a field we can run through
Yeah we only want a beat we can drum to Yeah we only want to fly by the side making love to the rhythm be a jeckyl and a hyde

So stride if you fail at least you tried
To keep your aching celebrating wonder making heart alive
And pride don't keep it all inside
Don't keep your aching celebrating wonder making heart alone
Write your own song

Whatever happened to our inner glow
Whatever happened to the song the soul the me I used to know
Whatever happened to my radio
Whatever happened to the song

Gonna wake up strong ya we're all gonna wake up strong...

Everyone clapped and I stood up. My family smiled.

"Inner Glow" really hit me hard. That’s how I felt so often.

My teacher smiled and offered me a chance to perform at the school concert. I politely declined.

"I prefer playing what and when I want to," I said.

She nodded like she understood, but I knew she didn’t. She wasn’t a musician at heart. She didn’t love the feeling of the music coming from beneath her fingers, or understand the story lyrics told. She didn’t do this because she enjoyed it. She only did because she failed at everything else. I pitied her.

I left, my family following.

Bella:

Jessica, Lauren, and Angela were all talking in awed voices at lunch.

"What happened?" mike asked.

Angela looked at him. "Addison Cullen played the piano in our music class. She’s extremely talented." There was awe in her voice.

"You wouldn’t believe the talent she has. She’s good at art, but no one ever knew she was a pianist. And her voice is marvelous. Bella, it’s worth taking the class to hear her sing," Jessica said.

I sighed. I didn’t want to talk about the Cullens.

During Biology, Mike asked me to the dance. Then Eric did later that day, then Tyler. I couldn’t believe it. And Edward had pulled his car out in front of my truck like he wanted to give Tyler a chance to talk to me.

I couldn’t believe him, and as I watched his family pile into his car, I saw Addison was peeved too. She however, walked to a red Mustang and slid in. I was surprised. Her car wasn’t brand new. It looked old, like mine. Though it started quietly.

I couldn’t understand Edward Cullen, because I believed firmly he knew Tyler asked me to the dance. As he drove away, I could’ve sworn I saw him laughing.

Addison:

The minute Edward walked through the door, I grabbed his arm.

"Why didn’t you talk to her?"

He didn’t respond. "You are aware three boys asked her out already right?" I asked.

"Of course."

"Well, I know you like her Edward. I’m not blind, nor stupid. So fucking talk to her!" Then I stormed upstairs to work on a painting.

Bella:

After one month of stony silence, Edward was talking to me again. And Addison seemed happier because of it.

At lunch, I brought up his sister.

"I heard she plays piano very well," I said.

He smiled. "You heard right. She plays frequently."

"Does she draw good too?"

He nodded. "Yes. And she paints as well."

I nodded. We had planned to go to Seattle this weekend, Edward and I. He caught up with me this morning to ask me. I of course, couldn’t refuse.

He pulled a piece of paper from his pocket and offered it to me.

"What’s this?" I asked.

"You asked about Addison’s art. So, here’s a sample."

I opened the paper and stared in surprise. It was a beautiful yet rough sketch of Forks. Well, the woods around it. It was very detailed.

"She did that in about ten minutes. It’s just a rough sketch. Some of her finished work is mind-blowing."

"I’d like to see it sometime," I said handing the sketch back.

He shrugged and looked away for a moment. I sighed. But I was glad we were talking again.

Addison:

"Yes! You talked to her!" I hugged Edward. We were at home, and he just walked through the door.

He seemed surprised. "I told you I would."

"Yes, but you’re so stubborn, I worried you would go back on your promise."

I let him go and ran up the stairs. I looked at the soldier’s portrait over my bed. I smiled sadly.

I walked to my easel where a painting of Esme and Carlisle sat, halfway done. I was painting it for their anniversary, and feeling happy, I blasted a Blue October CD and managed to finish it, only to start another painting. But I couldn’t openly identify what it was. And then, when I did, I vowed to never show Edward it. At least, not yet.
I recocmend the songs used in this fic.
