People were astonished that Asher would willingly return to a place with no medicine or hot running water. Apparently it never occured to a lot of people that this time he won't be immediately left behind by his ride - if he wants medicine and hot running water, he can bring them with him.
... of course, that does disregard Asher's usual luck...
