Imports might also be a euphemism for smuggling.

Umm, it's not exactly a euphemism. Smuggling is basically illegal imports, but we get the impression. So Neithe's going black market. Go figure.

Although some of the artwork done in Japan at that time would probably sell pretty well, so maybe it IS literal...

Could just be a matter of knowing people. She might not be working for or with the mob... but if you need to get through a blockade, and you mobster buddy happens to own a blockade runner... (shrugs)

Well, she may be a nice girl, but she WAS the accountant for Asher's dad. I seriously doubt she was not fully aware, and comfortable with, the fact that she was working for for an organized crime syndicate.

Also aren't they still technically "Asher's people" I though our geologist had simply been given control of the day-to-day stuff and the empire was still Asher's...?

Look at the bonus material inb the first book. Prior to this whole adventure there was already a busy traid in smuggling silk off of the planet.

When I lived in the U.S., many people thought I was in imports because I'm Mexican.

Once a guy asked me for a ton of "imports". (I kid you not!)

I was like "sure, let me just get it out of my car... my tiny car..." and when he realized I was joking he got offended and left ¬¬

But in all honesty, if I were a cat I'd be black and white or Birman. Or a ragdoll!

I just read something similar, but it was more about how Mexicans in Texas crossed the border without moving and the different ways they adapted.

Not to propagate negative stereotypes, but my neighborhood happens to be an excellent place to procure illegal fireworks. >.>
