Writing sex scenes

Just so you know, the prompts post is remaining open for claims. Posting of stories and artwork will start on August 1. And if you haven't yet pointed your fannish friends toward this community ... why not? *g*
I know that for many people here, this may be a first experience with smut writing, so I thought it might be helpful to assemble some guides and advice. I was going to put together a list of my favorite essays/meta posts about writing sex scenes, but then I remembered that such a list already exists! It's right here in lira_snape's journal, along with links to advice on many, many other writing topics.
Those essays are a great resource and they've been a huge help to me, so hopefully they'll be useful (or at least entertaining!) to others. My personal favorite is the How to Write a Lousy Sex Scene handout from WriterCon. It's a hilarious read.
