Vacation Log Day 3

Try #2 at this post.

I'm not a swimmer. I can't even float all that well. When I was in the second or third grade, I had an incident where my friends and I were playing in a pool and I was flipped upside down in the water for what seemed like forever, but was probably at most 30 seconds. Ever since then, I've been fearful of water. Not enough to avoid it at the beach, but learning to swim or being underwater still frightens me. Nevertheless, I still wanted to try out snorkeling.

After eating breakfast.....oh btw, complimentary breakfast is the most awesomist thing in the world because 8 days of free breakfast is always a good thing....so after breakfast, we got on the tour van. The guide picked us up along with 2 other families in our hotel and a few others from various hotels in the area. The guide was great because he drove the scenic route and told us about the history of the early settlers and how the town of Pinones came to be and all that fascinating stuff. When we got to Fajardo, we took a boat out to some small island Northeast of us and a good distance north of Vieques and Culebra.

With my fears of the water I never got to don the flippers, but I did snorkel a bit off to the side of boat, and it was still amazing to see the fish nearby. I've never seen such cleaner water before. Truly is amazing to see such pretty marine life. While on the boat, I also got to see a couple of dolphins flipping in the water a good distance from the boat. Paola did get to snorkel by the reef and saw some prettier things out there as well. We also stopped at a different location off the same island to do some more snorkeling with about 20 feet of water. I didn't even think about going in the water. Paola did and saw some beautiful stuff that I hope the underwater camera was able to capture.

The boat was essentially a booze boat. Drinks a plenty which is fine by me, but a little uneasy for Paola. By the time we made it back to the mainland, it was evident that some people were quite trashed, especially this Ryan Seacrest wannabe-look-a-like. Now also on our trip was a guy from our hotel we had met when we were booking our tours. This is one of the guys who always the center of attention, loves to talk forever, but is always happy-go-lucky. This guy will chew your ear off worse the Tyson and when he finally has no one to talk to, he'll talk constantly to his wife, and when she would have enough he would mumble incoherently to himself. Anyway the Seacrest dude was trashed enough that our tour guide was asking if anyone of us had plastic bags in case he would have to puke. He didn't thankfully, but then in his infinite drunk wisdom, who was supposedly in law school, started talking to sir talk-a-lot about having many black friends and how's he's cool with them, and the rest of that uncomfortable talk that many somewhat racist/bigoted people do when they've dug themselves in the hole about people of other races and how many friends they have of that particular race that is shared with sir talk-a-lot. And he was a good sport, he didn't pull the race card, he just gave him like 5 different avenues for Drunkencrest to shut up and at the 5th time he finally took it, which lead to a long while of cricket-cricket silence for a few minutes until the pit stop for bathroom breaks and more drunken people falling off sidewalks and scraping their knees.

After getting back, we hit the pool for a couple of hours, then came back to our rooms exhausted and went to bed early because the tour to Camuy Caves and the satellite at Arecibo would leave very early the next morning so we wanted to get to bed early.

So to sum it up, I do want to learn to swim by next year because I really do want to enjoy swimming and snorkeling and everything else that goes along with that.
