thanks to the recent modifications in the Gestalt Love tagging system, i'm going to write up this short tagging primer and discuss the new categories. (this does not mean that i think you're not smart enough to figure it out on your own. i just want to ensure universal understanding.)
tags are now broken down into the following categories:
Challenges
Contests
Characters
Posters
Teams
Universes
misc
we do not, and never have had, ratings tags here at Gestalt Love. should the come into popular demand, they will be added.
here is a break down of each category:
Challenges
challenges are community-wide theme challenges. each challenge has its own tag for easy referencing of the posts relating to that challenge. they are formatted to display the word challenge, the month of the challenge, the year of the challenge and the challenge theme. like this: challenge: may 2011 rashomon.
there are also challenge tags that are simply the word "challenge" with a year behind them. this is an organizational tag for my use, so that i can quickly find all the challenges issued in a year and make sure i don't accidentally duplicate one. this tag will not take you to entries for that challenge, unless it has been manually added to someone's post.
Contests
same as a challenge, except with a prize at the end. this is an annual event, and so there will be many fewer contest tags. they look like this: contest: june 2010 jealousy.
Characters
the characters that are included in your post. these can be any memeber of the gestalt team, including the combined form. if your character is not on the list (and with fifty two combiner team characters in G1 alone, it's very possible), just ask one of the mods to add the appropriate tag. we don't mind a bit. character tags look like this: character: superion.
Posters
this is you--the authors, artists, graphic designers, photographers and vid makers. everyone who posts to the community gets a personal tag upon their first or second post. (sometimes third, if the mods aren't paying close attention.) poster tags look like this: poster: eerian_sadow.
Teams
this is the team your characters belong to. each combiner team has a name that they are commonly known by, such as the Combaticons, the Technobots or the Seacons. this will only be the same as the combiner name in very few cases, such as Safeguard in TFA or Reflector in G1. for the teams with this exception, they will have only the combiner character tag, so as not to waste space. team tags are formatted thus: team: stunticons.
Universes
this is the Transformers series your fic is set in. currently there are only tags for G1, TFA and the Bay Movies. there are other combiner teams in other universes, however, and tags will be added for them as fanwork in those settings comes up. universe tags are formatted this way: verse: TFA
misc
these are tags that do not fall under other categories, such as the mod post tag, the PSA tag or the help wanted tag. this will be obvious because there is category word in front of them; they just hang out on the tag list.
please use all tags necessary to adequately label your post. i cannot stress enough how useful the tags are in finding that One Specific Post, and the more thoroughly labeled your post is, the more likely it is to be found when someone is looking for it or something like it. i will not, however, nitpick if you have all members of a team in your fic and therefore choose to use only the Team tag. that's still pretty thorough.
