Ancient Viking Religion Finds New Worshipers - Including White Supremacists The following is my letter in response.
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing concerning, the recent broadcast entitled: Ancient Viking Religion Finds New Worshipers - Including White Supremacists.
I wish to express my great disappointment, that a news casting agency such as yours, with the resources you have, could not do a better job presenting my religion than recently produced. Of all the images of our gods and goddesses, I find it hard to believe the best you could come up with were comic book images, which are no closer to representing my deities than an image of Marilyn Monroe could represent the Virgin Mary.
I find it unbelievable in the extreme, that your writers and editors felt the need to go no farther in their research, and presented such a biased account of the history of Asatru as it related to the Nazis. Yes, their were certain factions within the Nazi party that tried to twist and manipulate the Runes and to a lesser extent the mythology to fit their own sadistic needs; however, they were not then, nor are they now, representative of the followers of the Aesir and Vanir.
As with any religion, there are certain factions, who choose to twist and manipulate the facts and lore to fit their own devious ends; but they are by far the minority. Unfortunately, just as the far right-wing Fundamentalist Christians are the vocal minority, so too, are those who would debase our religion, the vocal minority.
Perhaps the next time you choose to do a piece such as this, for the greater education of the public, you will actually educate yourselves first, and not settle for focusing on the lowest common denominator of sensationalism to raise your ratings.
Sincerely,
