Better News

Well, instead of bombarding you with all this sadness, I thought I'd show you a picture of our new family member,

Mark had been looking at her on the Humane Society website.  We finally decided to take a look last Sunday.  When we got to the Humane Society we found that she wasn't in the cat room so we went to ask about her at the front desk.  They took a look on the computer and said that she was moved to the "Guest Room" which is where they do surgeries and stuff.  But this girl went over to look at her info there and when she came back she told us that she had been declawed as a kitten, but it was done wrong and what happened was some of the nails started to grow back.  One was abscessed and badly infected and two were coming in extremely deformed.  Well, we walked over to the guest house to take a look at her.  The girl who was helping us took Coco out of the cage and let us play with her while she went to call the vet.  We played with her and pet her and found out she was such a little sweetheart and very affectionate.  The girl came back and said that the vet wanted to re-declaw her.  She also said that they would let us adopt her out but would rather us wait until the operation was done for two reasons.  One, their job is to do what's in the best interest of the animal and they felt like it was their responsibility to take care of it there, and two... that way we didn't have to pay for the surgery at our own vet.  So, they did the declaw on Monday and we took her home Friday.  She's still on antibiotics for her one claw that had been infected, but she's doing really well.

The people at the H.S. were so happy to see her adopted.  She's been there since June or July and is two years old.  Coco is an absolute princess in the way she acts.  She is very petite.  Not sure how much she weighs, but she's tiny.  She's very talkative... actually she makes more of a loud, high pitched "brrrr" most of the time.  She made herself at home right away.  Sora didn't quite warm up to her right away and vice versa.  They said she'd lived with other cats before though.  Since this afternoon, Sora is finally getting warmed up to her and is trying really hard to check her out.  He keeps going up to her and sniffing her in a friendly way, but she freaks out and starts to grumble and hiss at him, so he gets frustrated and leaves.  I keep reassuring him and telling him he's a good kitty.  I can tell he really wants to "be nice" at this point.  He just keeps following her around and then giving me that face like "Why does she keep hissing at me?"   She can be very dainty in the way she plays, but give her some catnip and she raises hell running about.  It's so funny.  Also, I don't think she likes to walk on any kind of hard surface.  She kicks her hind feet up when she takes a step.  It's really quite humorous to watch.

Well, in other news, I am sorry I've been so neglectful.  There are a lot of things I've been neglecting in my life with as busy as things have been lately.  November was a blur and December's getting to be that way too.  I still pop in to read your journals now and then.  I'll try to not be so lazy!!
