Well... counting down the days until the second semester of school starts up again. We go back on Monday. I have to say it's been really nice just hanging out in the day time, even if I've had to work some nights at Target here and there. My school situation is changing, so I'm a bit nervous but also excited as well.
Back in November I noticed that there was a 7th grade science position opening up at another middle school. I emailed the principal and sent off my resume. I also said that I wouldn't be available until January because of the long term assignment that I was in. They found another long term sub, but he would only agree to stay until the end of the semester (he was a retired teacher not looking to teach full time again). So in the middle of December I had an informal interview type thing with the principal and assistant principal about the position and they offered it to me (as a long term sub for the rest of the school year). They said that I came highly recommended from the school I have been long term subbing at for the past year.
I met with the other 7th grade science teacher on the Friday before Christmas. She is extremely nice and she helped me to get set up. It was very bittersweet leaving the school where I've been subbing for so long. It was difficult going because the staff there is so helpful and supportive and I've gotten to know the students so well there. Now I'm going into a school where I don't know the staff or students. I've subbed there, but not very many times and it was so long ago. But the sweet part of it is that it is a science class which I am very excited about. And it is a vacancy that will definitely open up to a full time position for the next school year. I'm crossing my fingers that this is finally the open door for me.
